ABOUT US

The Department of Public Safety serves an active community of over 45,000 students, faculty and staff. Each year, we receive more than 300,000 calls for service - an average of over 800 a day. Our officers provide services to more than 75,000 of these callers and file approximately 8,000 incident reports a year. The Public Safety Department is made up of 143 employees. Public Safety patr

Last night, the University of Rochester Department of Public Safety was proud to participate in National Night Out alongside the Upper Mount Hope Neighborhood Association.

Thank you to the Upper Mount Hope Neighborhood Association for inviting us to be part of this outstanding community event! It was a great evening connecting with residents, building relationships, and celebrating the partnerships that help keep our neighborhoods safe and strong.

We were honored to join members of the community, the Rochester Police Department, and the Rochester Fire Department in promoting public safety, community engagement, and neighborhood unity.

Congratulations to Public Safety Officer Rich Hilliard on being selected as the recipient of the Linda Muise Award!

Officer Hilliard was presented with this prestigious award on July 9, recognizing his outstanding dedication to the Eastman School of Music community. 🐾 Double Dog Reunion! 🐾
What began as a call involving one loose dog ended with two happy reunions.
Last week, 1st Platoon Officers located a black dog running in the roadway near Genesee Park Blvd. and Scottsville Rd. To help identify the owner, the dog was transported to Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services, where staff scanned the dog for a microchip. Thanks to the microchip information, officers were able to quickly reunite Phineas with his family.
While speaking with the owners, officers learned that their second dog, Arrow, had also escaped. The owners advised that Arrow's AirTag showed he was in the Genesee Valley Park area.
Officers responded to the area and located Arrow on Brookscrest Way, where he was safely reunited with his family as well.
Thank you to the staff at Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services for their assistance with scanning the microchip and helping make these reunions possible.
This is a great reminder of the importance of micro chipping your pets and keeping identification and tracking information up to date. In this case, a microchip and an AirTag helped bring two beloved family members safely home.
