Global Nexus Program ~ Promoting Global Awareness Through Diversity, Inclusion and Cross-Cultural Understanding

The Global Nexus* initiative is about enriching minds, engaging hearts and transforming communities, where it seeks increasing knowledge and understanding of global communities and their cultures. Global Nexus is designed to help individuals and communities to connect locally and globally through education, partnerships, advocacy and service. Global Nexus’ programs are open to all interested individuals, and volunteers are always welcome! One of the strengths of Montgomery College is its highly diverse population of students, staff, and faculty from more than 170 countries. Its mission is changing people’s lives through knowledge. In order to combat ignorance, fear, and misinformation about cultures, we need to provide opportunities for the College and the greater community to learn and to engage in open discussion. Global Nexus, with its events, initiatives and partnerships can provide experience and knowledge about not only about Arab and Middles Eastern cultures, but also about the various cultures presented in our community. Global Nexus, aims to create new awareness, new friendships, mutual respect, and increased understanding. The program relates directly to Student Achievement, Retention and Engagement. In having students and faculty participate along with community members in activities, a foundation will be laid for further activities recognizing the contributions of the diverse community members to our community, nation and the world. Hopefully, it will also increase student engagement and strengthen the relationship between students and faculty, particularly in areas that will supplement the classroom educational experience.
