I am incredibly proud to celebrate Montgomery College’s 80th Anniversary and to be part of the official proclamation! The Montgomery County Council honored MC’s remarkable journey, growing into a nationally recognized institution serving over 47,000 students across three campuses, two training sites, the East County Education Center, and online programs, with up to 202 degrees, certificates, and licensure programs. Here’s to 80 years of empowering our community and shaping futures.

I am excited to share an important bill I introduced today that will help ensure compliance by short term residential rentals. Take a look:

Today, Councilmember Shebra Evans introduced Bill 42-26, which seeks to reduce the amount of revenue that is lost when Short-Term Residential Rentals (STTRs) operate without adhering to the current County licensing and fee structure that is in place.

I am grateful for the chance to attend the ribbon‑cutting ceremony at Green Acres Senior Residence and CSAAC. Being able to witness CSAAC reach such an important milestone in its commitment to providing lifelong support for autistic adults and children was truly inspiring. Green Acres is thoughtfully designed to meet the changing needs of individuals as they age, including those with limited to no mobility, and it was powerful to see that vision brought to life. I am honored to be part of a community that believes in dignity, inclusion, and support at every stage of life.

Had an amazing time at the Silver Spring Jazz Festival on Saturday! The lively jazz music, the energy of the crowd, and meeting so many talented artists made the whole day unforgettable. Such a fun experience, if you ever get the chance, definitely catch the next one!

Reflecting back on a summer filled with learning, community, and incredible conversations, from attending the Kojo Nnamdi Show to touring the Resource Recovery Facility and seeing firsthand how our county manages waste. I also had the opportunity to attend the MACo conference, which was an incredible learning experience and a great chance to connect with people from across the state. Celebrating National Night Out which was both meaningful and a really enjoyable experience with the local community. I am grateful for every moment and for the amazing people I met along the way. Here’s to carrying these experiences forward into the fall!

Please join me at the Silver Spring Jazz Festival with Grammy-nominated Cuban musician Cimafunk headlining the free event on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, at Veterans Plaza in the Silver Spring Arts & Entertainment District. Cimafunk’s sound mixes Afro-Caribbean and Cuban music with jazz, hip-hop, funk, soul and R&B. Known for his Afro-Cuban funk style, Cimafunk has built an international following with performances that connect Cuban rhythms and contemporary funk. The event also has a brewery garden, games for families, and will be a fun time for the whole community.
