Today, I co-chaired a Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments meeting on food insecurity and the impact of changes to SNAP and Medicaid. The Capital Area Food Bank’s new Hunger Report found food insecurity in the DMV is at a five-year high, affecting 38% of households. There is much more work ahead.

Montgomery County was the only county in the region where food insecurity declined, from 35% to 31%. A huge thank you to Heather Bruskin, Montgomery County’s Office of Food Safety Resilience, the Montgomery County Food Council, Montgomery County Health and Human Services - MD , our nonprofit food providers & all our partners for making this progress possible.

Great day celebrating the ribbon-cutting of The Chimes with MHP! All 163 homes will be affordable to households at or below 80% AMI, with 72 for households below 50%. Proud to be part of the partnership that made this project possible and grateful to everyone who brought it to life!

Happy 10th anniversary to the Montgomery County Green Bank!

For a decade, the Green Bank has helped the county build cleaner and more efficiently while lowering costs. Proud to have sponsored the Green Buildings Now Act with Tom Hucker to supercharge their capacity from $10M to nearly $500M. Congrats!

A special shoutout to my predecessor Roger Berliner who had the foresight to create the Green Bank from the Pepco-Exelon merger funding as the first locally established green bank in the world!

Proud to introduce Bill 47-26 today with Councilmember Kate Stewart, Councilmember Shebra Evans, and Councilmember Sidney Katz to expand Montgomery County's Homeowners' Tax Credit, building on our prior bill which expanded desperately needed tax relief to thousands of county families.

By raising income limits to HUD standards, we can help more seniors and working families access homeownership and remain in their homes.
