Today, I joined family, friends, and community members to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Jude Onyegbado. We remember his service, kindness, and the lasting impact he made on so many lives. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.

To the MCPS employees who learned today that you will not be returning in the fall: I am sorry. I am angry too. You did nothing to deserve this. I will keep working with our labor partners, with the Board, and with the school system to support every one of you through what comes next.

Opening Night at Big Train Baseball! Isaiah and I had a blast throwing out the first pitch to kick off the season.

There's nothing like a summer night at the ballpark, and Bethesda Big Train Baseball brings world class baseball right here to Montgomery County. Play ball! ⚾️

Today I joined my colleagues at the bill signing of four critical pieces of legislation β€” including the Unmask ICE Act, which I introduced, to push back against the cruelty and lawlessness of federal immigration enforcement.

Montgomery County is using every ounce of local power we have to protect our immigrant neighbors.

Happy Pride Month, Montgomery County. To every LGBTQ+ neighbor in our community: you belong here. Fully and unconditionally.

At a time when the federal government is trying to erase trans identities, roll back protections, and silence LGBTQ+ voices, I am proud to represent a community that believes in and protects the full dignity of every person, no matter who they love or how they identify.

Class of 2026: Some people may tell you that human creativity is inefficient. That your instincts are no match for an algorithm. That your story, your pain, and your joy, those things which make you singular and unique, can be replicated, optimized, and eventually discarded.

Don't believe them.

After the horrifying shooting at Wootton High School, mental health professionals like Liliana Ferrufino left their typical assigned campuses to show up where kids needed them most. Now, her position could be eliminated due to a $36 million funding gap that will impact hundreds of employees.

"The National Association of School Psychologists recommends a ratio of one psychologist for every 500 students. But in MCPS, they are often responsible for double or triple, even quadruple, that number."

I fought hard to prevent even deeper reductions, but let me be clear: the pain this will inflict on students, families, and school communities is simply unacceptable. Montgomery County cannot build a world-class education system if it keeps discarding the very people who hold it together.

Parents worry about what these budget cuts could mean for their children, particularly kids with complex needs.

Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating Eid al-Adha across Montgomery County! πŸŒ™

It was wonderful to connect with neighbors this week at the Muslim Community Center. Our county is home to one of the largest and most vibrant Muslim communities in the entire country. The richness of our community is reflected in every masjid, every gathering, and every act of service this Eid season.

Sharon Clemens was excited to graduate from Northwest HS, until on her last day of classes, she learned that Ms. Miller, her College and Career Navigator, will be cut from MCPS.

This is the impact of a $36 million funding shortfall. I repeatedly warned my colleagues this is what would happen. That we would lose the people who our children depend on. Some of them are now expressing outrage over consequences they voted for. We could have, and should have done more.
