The City of Roswell's Mission Pillar Award recognizes a city employee’s efforts in exhibiting one or more of the city's core values of accountability, communication, excellence, integrity and teamwork. One award winner is selected each month from the nominations received that month.

The honoree for the July Mission Pillar Award is Gilbert Benitez, a parks grounds maintenance worker.

The award nomination was submitted for Gilbert for his “outstanding dedication and leadership during the UFO Festival.” The nomination explains, “Gilbert demonstrated exceptional leadership by stepping in wherever he and his team were needed and helping with every aspect of the event. From setup to addressing unexpected challenges throughout the festival, he consistently led by example and ensured everything ran as smoothly as possible.”

During the festival that required long days and quick problem-solving from city workers involved in it, the nomination says “Gilbert never hesitated to put in the extra time or effort, maintaining a positive attitude and supporting staff across multiple departments. His willingness to help, lead, and keep the team motivated was instrumental to the success of the festival.”
