If the reporting is accurate, Karoline Leavitt resigning within 24 hours of learning Trump was allegedly prepared to leave her on a plane he believed could be targeted is not a shocking plot twist. It is the most Trumpian ending imaginable: everyone around him is expendable the second their safety, dignity, or humanity inconveniences his own ego.
A new mother. A loyal spokesperson. A woman who spent her time carrying water, polishing the propaganda, and treating every incoherent tantrum like it was the Gettysburg Address. And when the moment came, the calculation was apparently simple: save Trump, sacrifice whoever is closest.
Honestly, what did she think the deal was?
This is the man whose public record includes cheating on his pregnant wife with a p**n star, then participating in the hush-money scheme that led to his criminal conviction. He has never hidden the central organizing principle of his life: Donald Trump first, Donald Trump second, and everyone else can fight over the scraps.
The tragedy is that women like Leavitt are repeatedly sold a lie by the patriarchy: Be useful enough, loyal enough, cruel enough, unquestioning enough, and eventually the powerful man will see you as special. He will protect you. He will reward you. You will be the exception.
But there are no exceptions. There are only employees, props, and disposable vessels for the man’s appetite for praise.
Ask Kristi Noem. Ask Pam Bondi. Ask Tulsi Gabbard. The people who convince themselves they can stand close to the fire without being burned always learn the same lesson: proximity to Trump is not power. It is a temporary assignment, subject to cancellation the instant it stops serving him.
You do not win by holding water for the patriarchy. You do not become safe by defending a man who treats loyalty as a one-way extraction machine. And you definitely do not become indispensable to someone whose favorite word has always been “me.”
Trump did not betray some sacred alliance. He did what he has always done.
The only surprise is that anyone is still surprised.
