Staff members from White Plains and SWBOCES at Rochambeau School came together at a Staff Mixer to participate in collaborative activities designed to strengthen connections, deepen their understanding of one another's programs, and foster a shared commitment to supporting students.

Hosted Sept. 1 by Principal Julia Dolan, Assistant Principal Kathryn Meyers, and Rochambeau Director Khali Murrell, the event held in the Rochambeau gymnasium was filled with laughter, engaging conversations, and a genuine sense of community.

"We are grateful for our partnership with White Plains and look forward to a successful school year marked by continued collaboration, strong relationships, and student success," Principal Dolan said.

Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services Tracy Racicot embarks on her first school year in her new role since her appointment by the Board of Education on May 6. Ms. Racicot had served as SWBOCES’ Director of Adult and Community Services since 2019 and brings
more than three decades of experience in education as a teacher, principal, and director.

"As I step into this new role, I am deeply honored to empower our extraordinary staff and to uplift every learner across our BOCES—from our adult and high school CTE students to our dedicated special services community," she stated.

After reading "It Began with Lemonade," by Gideon Sterer, Leah Harris's class brought the story to life with their very own lemonade stand! Students worked together to plan, prepare, and serve lemonade, a fun, hands-on way to connect the story to real life—and, of course, enjoy a refreshing cup of lemonade along the way!

Students from the MD and AIIM programs at Rye Lake Lower Campus put the new Life Skills Space to the test with a hands-on baking activity—and it was a delicious success!

Students measured and mixed cookie dough, scooped cookies onto trays, followed step-by-step directions and decorated their creations with homemade icing. Led by Assistant Principal Michael Guida, with support from SWBOCES Consultant and retired Principal Phyllis Rizzi, the activity also included a special visit from Director of Special Services Jessica Walker and support from our YAI volunteer mentors.

Students practiced important skills including independence, communication, socialization, patience, and following directions—all while having fun!

“Our new Life Skills Space is all about creating meaningful opportunities for students to learn by doing," Principal Jonathan Remeny said. "Watching our students work together, build confidence, and take pride in what they created was wonderful to see. This is exactly the kind of hands-on learning we envisioned for this space.”
