Little Historians returns on Saturday, September 5th at 10:30am 📚

The Rye Historical Society is looking forward to reading "You Can't Do That, Amelia!" by Kimberly Wagner Klier. Honoring Rye's history, as Amelia Earhart was once a Rye resident!

Designed for ages 6-10 to spark curiosity, imagination, and a love of history in young learners.

Walk-ins are welcome; donations are gratefully accepted.

Tickets are selling FAST to our Annual Fall Celebration and Benefit on September 26th!

Join us on September 26th as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution with an exciting new take on our annual Fall event! The evening will feature live music by Michael Bram, a delicious dinner and craft drink tastings under a festive tent at the historic Knapp House.

All new this year, we will highlight the enduring tradition of American craftsmanship with a curated collection of handcrafted works for auction created by regional artisans, woodworkers, designers, and makers.

Participating organizations and makers include American Reclaimed, the Rye Arts Center, Lady Blue Quilts, Stickbulb, The Future Perfect, Robin Henschel & Aidan McCaffrey/White Oak Axes.

⛵️During renovations at the Square House
Museum in 1968, a discovery was made beneath the attic floorboards - a journal kept by sailor Nathaniel Rayment, dating from 1789-1793.

The journal is believed to have been a family heirloom of the Mead/Raymond family, who lived in the Square House in the late 1800s.

This month marks 233 years since August 1793, when Rayment was aboard the Betsey, recording the weather, his voyages, and the realities of life at sea in the 1700s.

Join us next Square House Book Club moderated by local resident and author Lee Sandford.

This month's meeting will be in-person; the book selection is It Girl by New York Times best-selling author Allison Pataki. Allison Pataki This fascinating historical fiction novel is based on the life of Evelyn Nesbit, America's first "It Girl", a model and actress who became a self-made celebrity in early 20th-century New York City.

To facilitate a lively and engaging discussion, Pataki will be pre-recording answers to select questions for our attendees. Wine and cheese will be served. Check our website, ryehistory.org for the link to register.
