🎉 Congratulations to Resident Services Manager Iyona Smith and Program Coordinator Marady Seng on graduating from the 2026 Spring Mark Whisler Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute (BCLI) through Organize Sacramento!

Over the past several months, Iyona and Marady have joined fellow community leaders in building the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to serve on local boards and commissions—helping shape decisions that impact our neighborhoods and greater Northern California region.

At Mutual Housing California, supporting staff development is a key part of our mission. By investing in leaders like Iyona and Marady, we’re strengthening not only our organization, but the communities we serve.

We’re proud of their accomplishment and grateful for their continued commitment to leadership, service, and community impact. Please join us in celebrating this exciting milestone! 👏

From uncertainty to unanimous support, Vacaville delivered for veterans.

Thank you to the Vacaville City Council, including District 6 Councilmember Wylie and Director of Housing and Community Services Tamara Colden, for backing Victory Gardens and standing up for veterans through the HOMEKEY+ program.

This milestone didn’t happen by accident. It reflects strong advocacy, meaningful community dialogue, and a commitment to addressing concerns with facts, not fear.

Proud to co-develop with Insight Housing, whose leadership and resident voices helped shift the conversation and bring this vision to life.

And thank you to Governor Gavin Newsom and the California Department of Housing & Community Development for continuing to expand HOMEKEY, creating more housing solutions for those who’ve served our country.

A win for veterans. A win for Vacaville. A win for what thoughtful leadership and community engagement can achieve.

California is in the final stretch of budget negotiations, and investing in affordable housing and solutions to homelessness is more important than ever.

The Senate has proposed $3 billion and the Assembly $1.7 billion for these programs—encouraging steps, especially after no funding was included in the Governor’s May Revise. More than 100 organizations are coming together to call for at least $3.3 billion in the final budget to support these critical efforts.

With past housing bond funding already used and no new bonds expected until 2028, we need action now. These investments help people stay in their homes, create more affordable housing opportunities, and support communities working hard to address homelessness.

Sacramento is showing what’s possible. 👏

The City’s top Prohousing score reflects strong leadership—and creates momentum for more affordable homes across our region. Current pipeline projects in South Sacramento like Strawberry Commons (near Wah Avenue) and San Juan Apartments (pictured in article) are possible because of this commitment.

For nearly 40 years, Mutual Housing has been proud to partner with the City to turn vision into homes—expanding opportunity for families and strengthening our communities.

The City of Sacramento successfully renewed its Prohousing Designation with the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), earning the highest score in the state for adopting policies that go above and beyond state housing law to help accelerate housing production. The Prohous...

We’re proud to celebrate and thank our incredible after-school program interns — Saida, Agnes, Tania, and Ashley — for their service to Mutual Housing communities over the past 8 months. 🤍

As Sacramento State students, they brought energy, compassion, and a strong commitment to community into every space they entered — building meaningful relationships with youth, creating safe and welcoming environments, and showing up with consistency and heart.

Their impact goes beyond the classroom, reflecting the power of hands-on learning and community partnership. From mentoring youth to supporting program staff, they’ve helped strengthen the spaces our residents rely on every day. 📚🍎⭐

We’re grateful for all they’ve contributed and excited to see where their journeys lead next. Thank you for making a difference!

A heartfelt thank you to the Sierra Club Connections Outdoors Sacramento (Sacramento ICO) and the Sierra Club Mother Lode Chapter for sponsoring this incredible field trip experience for our youth. 💚🌲

For many lower-income households, opportunities to explore California's natural spaces can be limited by barriers such as transportation costs, admission fees, and access to outdoor programming. Together we're helping remove those barriers, giving our young people the chance to experience the outdoors, build connections with nature, and create lasting memories.

These experiences are more than just a day of adventure—they help close opportunity gaps, foster a sense of belonging in our public lands, and ensure that all youth, regardless of income, have access to the educational and personal benefits that outdoor exploration provides.

Thank you for investing in equity, access, and the next generation of environmental stewards. 🌎✨

Yesterday, we had a wonderful time bringing neighbors together at our Cornerstone Community picnic! 🧺☀️🌳

As we celebrate NeighborWorks Week with NeighborWorks America and nearly 250 network organizations across the country, we're reminded that strong communities are built through connection, opportunity, and access to safe, stable housing.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for an afternoon of fun, fellowship, and community spirit.
