Before school routines settle back in and summer starts to slow down, come spend part of your Wednesday at Christine Thompson Aquatic Center.

The LAST WEEKDAY Recreation Swim of the season is Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Bring the towels, bring the sunscreen, and make one more midweek pool memory with us!

🏈 Evaluation Day is where the season starts to feel real.

Players arrive in proper attire with water bottles, and that mix of nerves and excitement. Coaches start learning names. Kids start finding their place. And parents get a first look at the season ahead!

NFL Flag Football Evaluation Day is Saturday, August 8 at Don & Brenda Nottoli Park.

Evaluation times:
6–8 years old: 9 a.m.
9–11 years old: 10:30 a.m.
12–14 years old: 12 p.m.

Registration closes the day before on August 7.

Meet us at Florin Creek Park for National Night Out on August 4. Bring your family, invite your neighbors, and spend the evening with Southgate Recreation & Park District, local partners, vendors, entertainment, free food, and activities!

This event is part of the District’s month of celebrations leading up to our 70th anniversary on August 27, and we want Florin Creek Park to be full of community energy.

The more neighbors who show up, the stronger the community will be!

🎉 National Night Out is one of those events that gives families a reason to do more than just walk through the park.

Bring the kids. Meet community partners. Stop by the vendor tables. Ask questions. Learn about neighborhood safety. Enjoy FREE food and entertainment. Spend the evening around people who care about the same community you do.

Southgate’s National Night Out takes place Tuesday, August 4, from 5–8 p.m. at Florin Creek Park.

For nearly 70 years, the District’s parks have been places where people gather, play, learn, and look out for one another. This night carries that same purpose forward!

School routines start coming back, evenings get busy again, and families start looking for something active, structured, and fun for their kids after summer.

NFL Flag Football gives kids a place to move, learn, and compete without needing tackle football experience. Players practice during the week and play games on Fridays and Saturdays, with Evaluation Day happening Saturday, August 8 at Don & Brenda Nottoli Park.

Registration closes August 7, so this is the week to get your player signed up!

🏃‍➡️Some kids are ready to run the second they hit the field.

Some need a few practices to find their confidence. Some come for the sport and leave with new friends. That is the good thing about NFL Flag Football, there is room for kids to learn the game while also learning how to be part of a team!

Our league helps players ages 6–14 build skills in passing, receiving, flag grabbing, defense, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a setting made for your child to grow!

The season begins August 8, and registration closes August 7.

Before school routines start creeping back in and the calendar fills up, give your family one more summer night at the pool.

Chomps and Friends Movie Night is happening Saturday, August 1 at Christine Thompson Aquatic Center, and it’s a good one to put on the calendar now.

Kids can swim. Families can take photos. There will be FREE ice cream, and Peter Pan on the big screen.

It’s an easy local night out in South Sacramento, and it helps kick off a month of celebration leading up to Southgate’s 70th anniversary on August 27.
