California’s creativity does not live in one place.

It lives in neighborhoods, classrooms, cultural spaces, correctional facilities, small towns and major cities across the state.

The California Arts Council helps connect artists, organizations and local partners with public investment and opportunity.

"As a teenager I got access to an arts class. It was access to opportunity." Danielle Brazell, Executive Director, California Arts Council .

Opportunity starts with access. Thank you to everyone who joined us at the 2026 Arts in Corrections Statewide Convening to celebrate the transformative power of the arts and the incredible community working to expand access, creativity, and connection to ALL Californians. 🎨✨

Thank you to Annie Buckley, Prison Arts Collective, and the AIC Capacity Building Team for leading and hosting an inspirational day 1 of the Statewide Convening.

Wishing all Californians a joyful America250!

As we celebrate this milestone for our nation, we’re especially proud to celebrate California Poet Laureate Lee Herrick , whose poem “My California” was selected as one of seven official California contributions to the America250 time capsule by Governor Gavin Newsom

California Arts Council Executive Director Danielle Brazell called the poem “a beautiful and deeply fitting contribution” that reflects the many experiences and perspectives possible across our “amazingly kaleidoscopic state.”

Here’s to the stories, voices, and creative spirit that help define California — today and for generations to come.
