Thank you to everyone who joined us in Los Angeles for the National Endowment for the Arts Grants Workshop!

Artists and arts organizations came together to learn more about federal funding opportunities, strengthen their grant knowledge, and connect with resources available at the federal, state, county, and local levels.

We were grateful to welcome partners from the National Endowment for the Arts, Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture , and Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, and to close the afternoon with remarks from NEA Chairman Mary Anne Carter.

We're excited to share an upcoming workshop where you can learn about grants to support your arts projects and how to apply!

Join the National Endowment for the Arts staff for an in-person workshop on federal grants and how to apply.

You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with staff from the California Arts Council, Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture, and Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs to learn about additional grant opportunities for California artists and arts organizations.

✨ Celebrating California’s Cultural Districts! ✨

The American Indian Cultural District (AICD) in Yelamu (San Francisco) celebrates American Indian culture, history, art, and community through cultural activations, gathering spaces, and initiatives that uplift the Bay Area’s American Indian community.

📍 The AICD is located on unceded Ramaytush Ohlone land in what is now known as the Mission neighborhood.

What happens when artists and arts organizations have resources to turn ideas into action?

During our San Rafael meeting, the Council explored the California Arts Council's Impact Projects program and heard directly from those connected to the work including grantee Kathryn Bates, cellist from Del Sol Quartet.

These conversations help connect statewide programs with what is happening in communities, and keep
artists, organizations and public impact at the center of California's arts investments.

Our August meeting began by recognizing place, people and history.

Theresa Harlan, founder and director of the Alliance for Felix Cove, joined the Council for a Land and Peoples Acknowledgement and shared a perspective rooted in Indigenous history, cultural stewardship and connection to ancestral lands.

It was a meaningful way to begin a day centered on listening, learning and considering how public investment in the arts can strengthen communities throughout California.
