In CTE courses, RSS students design, build, create, communicate, collaborate, troubleshoot, present, compete, and lead. They develop skills by connecting technical instruction with critical thinking, teamwork, problem-solving, technology, leadership, and work-based learning.

The future is changing, and with more than 98% of NC CTE concentrators graduating on time, RSS CTE is giving students the skills and experiences they need for what comes next. 🎓🛠️🎖️

Happy School Custodian Appreciation Day! 💙🧹
Today, we’re celebrating the incredible custodians who help make our schools welcoming, clean, and ready for learning each and every day!

From classrooms and hallways to cafeterias, athletic spaces, and our very own Wallace Educational Forum, our custodians are an essential part of the RSS family. Their hard work often happens behind the scenes, but the impact they make is felt throughout our entire district. Yesterday at Landis Elementary School, students across all grade levels took part in hands-on, engaging experiences that brought learning to life:

🌳 Kindergarten created trees from construction paper, exploring creativity and design.
🥪 1st grade learned the importance of clear step-by-step instructions through a PB&J-making exercise.
🧬 2nd grade gained the understanding of DNA and how it can be seen through fingerprints.
📖 3rd grade headed to Camp Reading for fun teamwork activities.
📐 4th grade visited the Cherry Treesort to learn about measurements and cost within architecture.
🦉 5th grade dissected owl pellets and got an up-close look at what owls eat.

Early release may mean a shorter school day, but in RSS there are still endless of opportunities to explore, discover, create, and learn! ⭐🧡🍏

RSS celebrated so much talent and hard work at our September Board of Education meeting! 🎉 From student leadership and agricultural achievement to the arts and outstanding educators, we’re proud to recognize these members of the RSS community:

🐄 Millbridge Elementary students Berkley Gersten and Raelynn Cress participated in the Ron Clark Student Leadership Academy in Atlanta. Berkley earned 1st place among fourth graders, and Raelynn earned 2nd place among fifth graders.

🌾 South Rowan High FFA earned a 3-Star National Chapter Award, and West Rowan High FFA earned a 2-Star National Chapter Award. Congratulations to Agricultural Proficiency Award recipients Brooks Overcash, James Ritchie, Kylie Firth, George Crainshaw, Mason Overcash and Grayce Moore, Agriscience Fair Top Finalist Guy Deal, C**t Safrit, and Annalise Watts, and to American FFA Degree recipients Isaiah Leonard, Avery Jenkins, Temperance Jones, Seth Karriker and Kennedy Clawson!

➗ 🟰 Caylee Snow ofJesse C. Carson High School attended the North Carolina Governor’s School in mathematics this summer.

🎶 The Jesse C. Carson High School Chorus won the opportunity to sing with Foreigner at PNC Arena—for the third year in a row!

🍎 RSS Teacher of the Year Michael Knox was named an NCCAT Phillip J. Kirk, Jr. Honored Educator Scholar.

⭐ We also recognized each school’s Beginning Teacher of the Year and celebrated our 2026–2027 district honorees: Beginning Teacher of the Year Sarah Jennings of West Rowan Middle School, Assistant Principal of the Year Courtney Price of Bostian Elementary School, and Principal of the Year Brenda Sokolowski of Mt. Ulla Elementary School.

⏰ If your school day begins at 7:30 a.m., then your early release time will be 12:00 noon. If your school day begins at 8:30 a.m., then your early release time will be 1:00 p.m.
⏰ Please make sure that you have arrangements in place for students arriving home on a bus at the earlier time, or that you have arranged for an early release pick up at school. ✨💙
