Why the ?
“I never really thought about pursuing a career with the FBI — honestly, it feels more like the FBI found me. While I was in college attending an engineering career fair, I stopped by an FBI booth promoting the Honors Internship Program and applied just out of curiosity. I didn’t expect anything to come from it, but I was selected and spent two years as an Honors Intern. My first year was on a Counterterrorism squad, where someone asked if I had ever considered becoming an Electronics Technician. I had no idea ETs even existed in the Bureau. During my second year, I interned with the ET squad here in San Antonio, and I immediately connected with the work they were doing. After graduating with my BS in Electrical Engineering, I was hired directly as an ET, and I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. As an ET, I’ve discovered just how much the role contributes to the Bureau’s mission behind the scenes. We keep the organization connected, protected, and mission ready every day. A big part of our work involves maintaining radio sites across our area of responsibility so agents have reliable communications wherever their investigations take them. We support SWAT with mission critical communications during training and operations, and we often travel to other divisions to lend a hand on complex technical projects. You may also find us designing and maintaining network infrastructure or installing and servicing intrusion detection and access control systems that secure Bureau facilities. Every day brings something new—field work, engineering, troubleshooting, and teamwork all woven together. It’s fast paced, hands on, and incredibly rewarding, and that variety is exactly what makes being an ET so special. ETs truly are the best kept secret in the Bureau.” -Juan Tapia, FBI Electronics Technician

Real Voices. One Mission.

Why the ?
“My father, who was a Special Agent for 30 years, had so much pride in his work and it seemed so exciting. I always knew this was the kind of work I wanted to do. I currently serve as an FBI Field Photographer - shooting forensic photos, providing evidentiary photography training and performing forensic digital enhancements on media. I am also the resident event photographer, videographer and editor, snapping headshots for badges, passports, you name it. No two days are the same in this position and I absolutely love that. If you ever encounter me doing my job, you may find me snapping a group photo of 200 people, speaking to students on Career Day, instructing squads on evidence collection, or photographing a serial number on a weapon. If any of that sounds interesting to you and you’re searching for your career path, I encourage you to consider the FBI Field Photography program!” – FBI Field Photographer Kirby Howell
