๐Ÿš— Traffic Tip Tuesday: Car Seat Safety ๐Ÿš—

This week marks National Child Passenger Safety Week, a perfect opportunity to ensure your child is riding safely!

Under Texas Transportation Code ยง 545.412, children younger than 8 years old must use an appropriate child passenger safety seat unless they are taller than 4 feet 9 inches. This requirement includes both car seats and booster seats.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that nearly half of all car seats are installed incorrectly.

Would you like to have your childโ€™s car seat inspected to ensure it is installed correctly? If so, please contact Officer Kraft at 210-619-1264 to schedule an appointment.

Update: The traffic light is working properly and the temporary stop signs have been removed.

The traffic signal at the intersection of FM 78 and FM 3009 is currently not operational. TxDOT has been notified and there is currently no estimate for the repair time.

In the meantime, the Streets Department has installed temporary stop signs at the intersection. Please exercise caution when driving in the area and be prepared for potential delays.

โš ๏ธ COMMUNITY ALERT โ€“ SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY โš ๏ธ

The Schertz Police Department is asking for the communityโ€™s assistance regarding a suspicious incident reported in the Belmont Subdivision at the park.

On September 12th, at approximately 8:30 p.m., a community member contacted the Schertz Police Department to report an incident that occurred between approximately 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., a child was at the neighborhood park when an unknown male reportedly grabbed the child by the arm. The child was able to get away, and the male did not make any statements during the incident.

The male was described as:
โ€ข Approximately 30โ€“40 years old
โ€ข Dark hair
โ€ข Medium skin tone
โ€ข Wearing a blue top and jeans

Our Criminal Investigations Division has been notified and is investigating.

We are asking anyone who was in the Belmont Subdivision during this timeframe and saw anything suspicious or may have information related to this incident to contact the Schertz Police Department at 210-619-1200 to speak with an officer.

We also encourage parents and guardians to remind children to remain aware of their surroundings, stay with trusted adults or friends when possible, and immediately report anything that makes them feel unsafe.

Please avoid speculation or sharing unverified information while this incident is being investigated.

๐ƒ๐ž๐ญ๐š๐ข๐ฅ๐ฌ: There will be daily lane closures on ๐…๐Œ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ‘ ๐›๐ž๐ญ๐ฐ๐ž๐ž๐ง ๐Ž๐ฅ๐ ๐–๐ž๐ข๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ž๐ข๐ง ๐‘๐จ๐š๐ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐Ž๐ซ๐ญ๐ก ๐€๐ฏ๐ž๐ง๐ฎ๐ž. These closures are necessary for the contractor to install handrails along the roadway.

During work hours, traffic will be reduced to a single lane, with two-way traffic controlled by a pilot truck through the work zone. All lanes will reopen each day after 3:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect delays and consider allowing extra travel time through this area. Drivers are also urged to slow down, obey all traffic control devices, and be vigilant for construction crews and equipment in the work zone.

Details: Northbound and Southbound traffic between Woman Hollering Creek Bridge and Ray Corbett Drive will be shifted to the east. Two-way traffic along FM 1518 will be maintained. This configuration is expected to be complete by the end of the day on Saturday, September 12th.
