๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ’ School is starting soon, so let's talk about SCHOOL BUS SAFETY. ๐ŸšŒ

Did you know that a student's greatest risk is not riding the school bus, but rather approaching or leaving it? Drivers, parents, and students must understand school bus safety.

Passing a stopped school bus is not only dangerous but also illegal. When a school bus has its red lights flashing and its stop arm extended, ALL traffic must stop in both directions unless there is a physical median.

Children may be crossing the street and can often be hard to see. Never assume it's safe to proceed until the bus has moved and its signals are off.

๐Ÿ’ก Remember the following safety tips:

๐Ÿ›‘ Stop at least 20 feet from the bus.
โœ‹ Stay stopped until the bus resumes motion or the driver signals that it's safe to go.
โš ๏ธ Slow down and remain alert in school zones.

With Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD (SCUCISD) starting August 13, Comal ISD starting August 25, School of Science and Technology Public Schools starting August 12, Founders Classical Academy - Schertz starting August 13, and John Paul Catholic II High School starting August 24, families are getting ready for another great year.

As everyone settles back into their routines, remember that safety starts before the first bell rings:

As the school year approaches, we will see more kids traveling to school by walking, biking, skateboarding, or using E-bikes (electric bicycles). Before sending your children out on E-bikes, we want to remind you of the laws regarding this mode of transportation.

E-bikes, which are equipped with pedals, can be used on bike lanes, sidewalks, and trails. They are allowed on roadways, but riders must follow all traffic laws. The motor of the E-bike cannot exceed 750 watts; it cannot go faster than 28 miles per hour, and the operator must be at least 15 years old to ride a Class III E-bike.

Motor-assisted scooters do not have pedals, and you do not need a license or registration for them. However, Schertz City Ordinances prohibit their use on sidewalks.

Mopeds, motor scooters, electric motorcycles, and electric dirt bikes (also known as pocket bikes or minibikes) operate solely with a throttle, can reach higher speeds, and are classified as motorcycles under Texas law. This means they require a driverโ€™s license, registration, and insurance for road use. Electric dirt bikes are not permitted in bike lanes, on sidewalks, or on trails.

E-bikes can be a fun and efficient way to travel, but safety and awareness are crucial for keeping everyone safe on our roads and trails. Using the wrong vehicle in an inappropriate area can lead to citations, fines, or accidents. While operating an E-bike, please be mindful of pedestrians, as E-bikes are quiet and may not be heard by others. Our goal is for everyone to enjoy the sidewalks, trails, and roadways safely.

๐ŸšจNews Release ๐Ÿšจ

On July 7, 2026, the Schertz Police Department received a report of a missing person, described as a 49-year-old male.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the Schertz Police Department requested assistance from TEXSAR, Texas Search and Rescue, on August 1, 2026. During the search, human remains were located in a wooded area in the 17200 block of Wiederstein Road.

At this time, the identity of the remains have not been confirmed. Additional forensic testing will have to be conducted to positivity identify the remains, as well as the cause and manner of death. The discovery is being investigated as possibly being the missing person from earlier in the month. There is no active threat to the community.

This remains an active investigation, and additional information will be released when it becomes available.
