Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder that everyone deserves support — especially during difficult times. Self‑care is important, but sometimes we need more than that. Reaching out for help is a strong and healthy choice.

You may benefit from extra support if you notice:
• Stress that doesn’t improve with rest or breaks
• Feeling overwhelmed most days
• Mood, sleep, or appetite changes lasting for weeks

Hepatitis Testing Day raises awareness about viral hepatitis and the importance of screening for hepatitis B and C. Many people living with chronic hepatitis don’t experience symptoms for years. That’s why testing is essential for early detection, treatment, and preventing long‑term health problems.

All adults should be screened for hepatitis B and C at least once in their lifetimes.

Every May, National EMS Week brings communities together to honor the lifesaving work of emergency medical professionals across the country. SFDPH is proud to join San Francisco Department of Emergency Management in recognizing this vital work through the 2026 EMS Awards Ceremony.

This year’s awards celebrate outstanding contributions across the full spectrum of our EMS system – including emergency communications, first response, field operations, hospital based emergency care, community partnership, EMS leadership, disaster preparedness, and the expanding field of community paramedicine.

These professionals and community partners work around the clock to protect and improve the lives of San Franciscans. We thank them for their dedication, compassion, and commitment to service.

33 people died of overdose in San Francisco in April – the fewest monthly deaths since our City began tracking overdoses in 2020 and yet still a shocking and unacceptable amount of loss. Every overdose is tragic and could have been prevented through effective treatment and support.

is committed to high impact interventions for help people who use drugs to break the cycle of addiction and reach lasting stability and sustained recovery.

One such intervention is our on-demand program for medications for opioid use disorder called BEAM (Bringing Expanded Access to Medications.)

Over the past two years, BEAM has done more than 10K clinical visits with more than 4K people in San Francisco seeking help with opioid use disorder. Each one of those visits represents a moment when someone reached out for help — and our program was there to meet them.

If you or someone you know is using fentanyl, he**in, or pills and would like to speak with someone about treatment options, we encourage you to contact BEAM at 888-246-3333, available between 8am and midnight, every day of the week. Or visit the BEAM clinic inside the SFDPH Behavioral Health Access Center at 1380 Howard Street on weekdays, no appointment necessary.
