✨ Lumina Days is THIS Saturday—and I still have some fundraising to do! ✨

This Saturday, October 3, I’ll be stepping a little outside my comfort zone and onto the runway at Lumina Days at Tar Creek Ranch, all in support of Lumina Alliance and the important work they do for survivors and families throughout San Luis Obispo County. 💜

I set a goal of raising $1,000 for survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence. I could still use your help getting there! Every donation supports services provided at no cost to survivors, including shelter, therapy, advocacy, prevention education, and 24-hour crisis support.

And if you’d rather cheer me on in person, come join us! Lumina Days brings together fashion, local shopping, food, w**e, and community for a really meaningful cause.

We’re not entirely sure Avila Beach still qualifies as a “hidden” gem… the secret has definitely been out for a while! ☀️🌊

Avila continues to earn recognition as one of the Central Coast’s special places, and we’re glad to see Travel + Leisure joining the many of us who already know just how much there is to love about this little beach community.

From the beach and Bob Jones Trail to our local businesses, restaurants, and wonderful community, Avila truly is a gem.

We may disagree on the “hidden” part, but we’re always happy to see Avila getting some well-deserved recognition! 💙

A long-awaited connection is finally becoming a reality! 🚲🌿

It was wonderful to join community members and project partners at the Octagon Barn to celebrate the groundbreaking of the first segment of the Bob Jones Trail Gap Closure Project.

When complete, the project will connect the existing Bob Jones Trail from Avila Beach to Highway 101 with the trail section between Prado Road and Los Osos Valley Road—creating a seamless route along San Luis Obispo Creek and an important new connection for people walking, biking, and enjoying our community.

Segment 1 is expected to be completed in 2028, with construction of the second and final segment to follow.

There is still work ahead, but after years of planning, advocacy, and collaboration, it was exciting to finally put shovels in the ground and celebrate this milestone together!

Protecting Wild Cherry Canyon is an exciting milestone for the future of the Diablo Canyon Lands—but acquisition is only the beginning of the conversation.

In my latest opinion piece in The Tribune, I share my thoughts on what comes next and the importance of planning for responsible public access that balances conservation, tribal partnership, public safety, and long-term stewardship.

This is a remarkable stretch of our Central Coast, and we have an opportunity—and a responsibility—to thoughtfully plan for its future.

☕ An early morning, but always worth it!

I enjoyed joining the South County Chamber of Commerce this week to share an update on what’s happening across San Luis Obispo County and some of the issues and projects we’re working on in South County.

It’s always a pleasure to spend time with our local business community, hear what’s on their minds, and have the opportunity to answer questions and share what’s happening at the County.

Never forget.

This past week has given me several moments to reflect on what it truly means to serve others.

From recognizing members of our local law enforcement community at the Masonic Lodge’s annual Law Enforcement Awards Dinner, to standing at the September 11 Memorial at San Luis Obispo Fire Station 1, I have been thinking about the men and women who make the choice to run toward danger when the rest of us are trying to find our way to safety.

Twenty-five years ago today, first responders entered the World Trade Center as thousands were being evacuated. Among those who made the ultimate sacrifice were 343 firefighters and 72 law enforcement officers.

Behind each of those numbers was a person—a parent, spouse, child, friend, colleague, and someone who answered the call to serve.

Today, I remember them with gratitude and humility. I also think about the first responders here at home who continue to answer that same call every day, often without knowing what will be waiting for them when they arrive.

September 11 reminds me not only of tremendous loss and sacrifice, but also of the way we came together in the days that followed—neighbor helping neighbor, strangers supporting one another, and communities united by our shared humanity.

May we never forget those we lost, those who ran toward the danger, and our responsibility to continue showing up for one another. 🇺🇸
