HALF OFF all dogs and cats this Saturday, August 22nd in support of the event.
All dog adoption fees are reduced to just $65, which includes microchip, spay or neuter, and age- appropriate vaccinations. *SLO County adopters will also have license cost of $28 (senior) to $32.

Cat adoption fee is just $42.50

Dog kennel hours are Saturday from 1-5 pm for walk ins only.
Cats are available to view and adoption during business hours 9 am-5pm.

Long grass, overgrown field? We have the answer! We have 9 wethers (castrated male sheep) available for adoption. They do well in groups so we recommended adopting at least a few. If you are ready to add to your farm's flock, come meet these friendly sheep today! Adoption fee is $28.

HALF OFF cat and kitten sale starts today!

The shelter is full of cats and kittens that are waiting for their purrrrfect home. All cats and kittens are spayed or neutered, microchipped, FELV/FIV tested, and UTD on age-appropriate vaccines. If you have been looking to adopt a cat (or two) then consider coming to meet our loving feline friends today. The shelter is open daily 8-5, Wednesday until 7 pm, and Sat 9-5.

Rocko and Sage can both feel anxious and stressed in their kennel at the shelter, so volunteers took them for a field trip so they could relax and get some good exercise in! Both dogs did amazing exploring the busy streets of downtown SLO! They were just fine with people, bikes, and cars passing by, and didnā€™t seem to mind the loud noises at all! They headed over to the railroad bike bath and walked all the way to Sinsheimer Park, where they absolutely loved rolling in the grass and hanging out in the shade! Though they are both fairly amped up in their kennels, it doesnā€™t take much exercise for them to feel ready for a nap! They took lots of breaks to sniff and lounge beneath the trees, where volunteers gave them belly rubs and treats! Rocko, the Catahoula/Great Dane mix, is mostly blind, so he did need some guidance so he didnā€™t run into anything. He did conquer the stairs though and is very trusting of whoever is walking him! Both dogs rode well in the car and were on their best behavior the entire outing. Both dogs are not doing well in their kennels and would benefit from a forever home soon! If you want to meet Rocko or Sage, call the shelter at (805) 781-4400 to make an appointment to meet them or stop by the shelter to visit them during open kennel hours Monday-Saturday 1:00-5:00 (extended until 7:00pm on Wednesdays)!

Meet August!

August has been waiting for his forever home since he came to the shelter as a stray in December 2025. As our longest-term resident, we'd love nothing more than to see this deserving boy finally find the family he's been waiting for.

If you're looking for an adventure buddy, August is your guy! He loves hikes, long walks, fetch, toys, and all kinds of outdoor adventures. Smart, treat-motivated, and eager to learn, August is a quick learner who has also made several dog friends during his time at the shelter.

Once he's burned off his energy, August is a total sweetheart who loves affection and is happiest cuddled up with his favorite people. He'll need continued obedience and potty training, but with patience and consistency, he's sure to thrive.

August's loyal heart, playful spirit, and goofy personality make him the perfect companion and best friend.
