We know how hard it can be hard to know what to say to a loved one who is grieving so here’s a few tips:
• Offer specific help: “Let me know if you need anything” is too generic for those in the midst of grief. Offer to help with specific tasks. This allows the griever to simply accept the help.
• Just show up: Be willing to just be with the person and sit in silence. You don’t need to offer advice or the perfect response. Just be there.
• Remember names: Hearing a loved one’s name is often meaningful to people who are grieving.
