The National Forum for Black Public Administrators proudly celebrates The Honorable Edna Branch Jackson as a 2026 NFBPA Leadership Awards Gala Honoree!

A trailblazer in every sense of the word, Representative Jackson made history as the first African American woman elected Mayor of the City of Savannah. She was also the first woman elected to a citywide At-Large seat on Savannah City Council, and the first woman selected to serve as Mayor Pro Tempore.

A Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., her legacy of service, however, began long before elected office.

As a young woman, Jackson became active in the NAACP Youth Council and the Civil Rights Movement, participating in sit-ins, voter-registration efforts and demonstrations throughout the South. Today, she continues that legacy as a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 165.

Her life embodies this year’s theme: “When Leadership Matters Most: Courage, Accountability & Service."

From the front lines of the Civil Rights Movement to Savannah City Hall and the Georgia State Capitol, The Honorable Edna Branch Jackson has spent a lifetime answering the call to serve.

On October 2, we honor not simply the positions she has held, but the history she has made, the barriers she has broken, and the generations her leadership has helped make possible.

Today, the Savannah Metropolitan Chapter of the National Forum for Black Public Administrators joins our nation in remembering the lives lost, the families forever impacted, and the courageous first responders and public servants who answered the call on September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their courage, sacrifice, service, and resilience.

As public administrators, we are reminded of the extraordinary responsibility carried by those who serve our communities, especially in moments of crisis. May we continue to lead with compassion, serve with purpose, and never forget the strength found in unity.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
