The county seat is Savannah Chatham is one of the original counties of Georgia, created February 5, 1777. 🛑REMINDER: Walthour Road Closure Beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, June 3, 2026 🛑

Walthour Road between Rivermist Lane and Oemler Loop will be closed to traffic beginning June 3, 2026, for the Walthour Road Slope Stabilization Project.

The closure is expected to last up to 120 days, with the road anticipated to reopen no later than October 1, 2026.

Don’t miss the Rec n Roll kickoff this Saturday at Bertha Mae Cummings Park!

Looking for some FREE summer fun close to home? ☀️🎉

Chatham County Parks and Recreation’s Rec n’ Roll series is bringing games, music, crafts, giveaways, and family fun straight to neighborhood parks across the county through July!

The kickoff event happens May 30 at Bertha Mae Cummings Neighborhood Park and will feature a special pre-Juneteenth celebration with African drumming, storytelling, drum-making, and more.

All events are free and open to the community — come out, make memories, and have some fun with us this summer!

Place items curbside no more than three days before your scheduled collection day, and make sure everything is out before 7 a.m. on pickup day.
