Like many in our community, I have seen the recent reports regarding the fire at Robbins Lumber. While the investigation continues and new information has been released, it's important that we remember there is a difference between understanding what may have happened and assigning blame.
Volunteer firefighters answer the call at all hours of the day and night. They train diligently and make difficult decisions under rapidly changing, high-pressure conditions. Those decisions are made with the information available at the time and with one goal in mind—protecting lives and property.
As investigations move forward, we should allow the facts to guide any conclusions. It is neither fair nor constructive to rush to judgment or to diminish the dedication of the firefighters who responded or the company that suffered such a devastating loss.
This is a time for respect, gratitude, and support—for the employees affected by the fire, for the volunteer firefighters and emergency responders who worked tirelessly, and for everyone impacted by this tragedy.
Thank you to every firefighter, EMT, dispatcher, law enforcement officer, public works employee, and volunteer who answered the call. Your service to our communities does not go unnoticed.
