The Friends Place is a respite ministry of Dungeness Community Church designed to provide a place of love and community for people living with all types of memory loss, including Alzheimer’s, dementia, Parkinson’s, stroke, and age-related dementia.

We had not one Uncle Sam, but TWO, to help us celebrate the 4th of July! Eric told us the story behind the writing of the Star-Spangled Banner, we played a game to guess whether things originated in the USA or Canada, we played some All Things American bingo, and then Madelaine led us in a patriotic sing-along with the help of Uncle Sam. Mary made some delicious patriotic cupcakes for dessert and of course we had to end our day with some balloon volleyball. Happy Independence Day!

What a Wednesday! We started our day with bike rides from the wonderful Sequim Wheelers, then Cheryl helped us color some 4th of July fireworks, the DCC Men’s Ministry grilled burgers for our cookout lunch (we forgot to take pictures 😔), we had a competitive game of Velcro darts, and then Diane came to sing for us! 🥰

We had another day jam-packed with fun activities at The Friends Place! Eric showed us his fabulous collection of canes, and Harry Potter came by to lead us in chair exercise and show us a few”magic trick” science experiments. After Mary’s homemade delicious pasta lunch and Barb’s chocolate covered strawberry dessert, the Senior Singers serenaded us with their songs, and of course we finished the week strong with balloon volleyball!

Every single day at The Friends Place is the best day ever! Look at all of these beautiful smiles! Today was all about the beautiful lupine flowers that are blooming around the Olympic Peninsula. Kay read us short story about the Lupine flower and made us an absolutely delicious purple sprinkle sugar cookie bar bake, and Cheryl created a beautiful lupine art coloring project.
