Darby Township Police Department

The Darby Township Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Detective Lieutenant John Hamill and to our brothers and sisters of the Ridley Township Police Department.

For 36 years, Lieutenant Hamill dedicated himself to serving the community he called home. That kind of commitment is more than a career — it is a lifetime of service, sacrifice, leadership, and loyalty.

His passing leaves a tremendous void not only within the Ridley Township Police Department, but throughout the law enforcement community here in Delaware County. Those of us who wear the badge understand that departments may have different patches on our sleeves, but in moments like this, we are one family.

To Lieutenant Hamill’s family: our hearts are with you.

To the men and women of Ridley Township Police: we stand with you, we grieve with you, and we are here for you.

May his decades of service, the lives he touched, and the legacy he leaves behind never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Lieutenant Hamill.

END OF WATCH — OFFICER SHANE SEIBER
Philadelphia Police Department
October 10, 2026

Tonight, the thin blue line is a little thinner.

The Darby Township Police Department joins law enforcement agencies across our region in mourning the line-of-duty death of Philadelphia Police Officer Shane Seiber, a 10-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department’s 19th District.

Officer Seiber answered a call for help in the early morning hours of October 10 — the same kind of call police officers answer every day without knowing what may be waiting on the other side. This time, he would not make it home.

Behind the uniform was a husband, a father, a friend, a partner, and a brother officer. He leaves behind a wife, a 7-year-old son, and a 3-year-old daughter who must now grow up carrying the enormous pride of knowing their father was a hero, while also carrying a loss no child should ever have to understand.

There are moments when words like service, sacrifice and courage stop being words printed on a patch or spoken at a ceremony. They become painfully real.

Officer Seiber gave ten years of his life protecting people he may never have known. In the final moments of that service, he was still doing what he had sworn to do — moving toward danger because someone else needed help.

To his wife and children, his family, his friends, and every member of the Philadelphia Police Department: you do not mourn alone.

And to our brothers and sisters of the 19th District, we stand beside you.

May Officer Shane Seiber’s service never be forgotten, may his children always know the measure of the man their father was, and may those who wore the uniform beside him carry his memory forward every time they answer the next call.

Rest easy, Officer Seiber. We have the watch from here.
