A public charter school is a school of choice that: costs nothing for tuition, must be open to students of all abilities (no admission requirements, special ed./needs) and is highly accountable.

Originally founded in 2012 as the first elementary charter school approved in Maine, CRCS has expanded to serve hundreds of students from more than a dozen surrounding communities.

The school serves learners from Pre-K through grade 12 across three campuses: Creative Children’s Academy, Dimensions Academy, and Overman Academy.

Making Minis Leads to Big Time Problem Solving

At CRCS, we transform hobbies into opportunities, pastimes into pathways, downtime into demonstrations of learning. From hiking and fishing to tabletop gaming and cosplay, we challenge all of our middle school/high school age learners to make the jump from consumer to creator while earning graduation credits along the way.

Our school is built around the belief that learning works best when students have agency.

Learners here help design their educational path, practice self-advocacy, and develop the skills needed to navigate a flexible learning environment. Educators guide, support, and challenge—while students take an active role in their growth.

This model isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. It’s designed for learners who are ready to engage, reflect, and take responsibility for their learning.

Creepy, crawly, and full of wonder! In our classroom, Pre-K learners explore the fascinating world of insects through hands-on activities like magnifying, sorting, and observing live or model bugs. This engaging approach sparks curiosity, builds observation skills, teaches scientific thinking, and encourages teamwork—all while making learning fun!

We have openings at our early childhood campus (Creative Children's Academy), located at 48 S Factory Street in Skowhegan. Learners must be 4 years old by 10/15/26.

Letting kids wear hats encourages comfort, confidence, and self-expression. At CRCS we let leaners make clothing choices that are appropriate for time and place.
