📢 PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE: Skowhegan Second River Crossing Update 🌉

Skowhegan residents, please mark your calendars for an important community update.

The Town of Skowhegan will be hosting an informational public meeting with the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) regarding the plans for the proposed second bridge crossing over the Kennebec River.

🗓️ When: Monday, August 10th, 2026
⏰ Time: 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
📍 Where: Skowhegan Community Center

What is the focus of this meeting?
While there are no specific requirements or final approvals mandated by MaineDOT for this session, the true intent is to keep our community fully informed and involved. MaineDOT will provide an updated look at the plans for the second crossing and specifically address how the new roadway and bridge infrastructure will impact the neighborhoods directly to the north and south of the river.

If you live in or near these areas, or if you simply care about the future flow of traffic and infrastructure in our town, your presence and voice are highly encouraged.

Come get the facts, see the latest conceptual plans, and ask your questions. See you there!

Help Shape the Future of Skowhegan! 📈🚜

The Skowhegan Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) is calling on anyone who is interested in giving back to our community to join our Board of Directors! We currently have 6 active members and need at least one more dedicated volunteer to meet our minimum standards and keep our momentum going.

If you want a seat at the table to help guide our town's growth, this is your chance!

As outlined in our official by-laws, the purpose of the SEDC is to promote economic and industrial development for the direct benefit of the citizens of Skowhegan. We work to manage our Industrial Parks, support existing local businesses and industries, and foster a thriving economic atmosphere.

Who Can Apply?
We welcome anyone interested who meets one of the following qualifications: You are a resident of the Town of Skowhegan. You own, operate, or are employed by a business or government entity right here in town (or have formerly done so).

Board ExpectationsMeetings:
We meet on a monthly basis. If you are busy or traveling, we allow remote participation via video or phone, which counts toward our meeting quorum.

Duties:
Members vote on local development matters, act in accordance with our by-laws, and help champion the board's collective goals.

Process:
Interested candidates are recommended by the existing SEDC board and officially appointed by the Board of Selectmen.

Shoutout to the team at Old Mill Pub for showing up in a big way for our community! 🍔✨
It’s always wonderful to see our local businesses investing time and energy into our students. Benjamin D Dore and Michael Bruce recently spent their time supporting the amazing REACH After School Program. Check out the photos to see them in action!
Thank you for being such an active part of Skowhegan and for all that you do to support our youth.

📢 Skowhegan Residents: The Future is in Your Hands! 🗺️

After three years of hard work, public surveys, and community planning, the draft for the 2025 Skowhegan Comprehensive Plan Update is officially complete and ready for your review!

🔗 Read the full draft here: https://www.skowhegan.org/DocumentCenter/View/6902/2025-Skowhegan-Comprehensive-Plan-?bidId=

What is a Comprehensive Plan? Think of this document as Skowhegan’s master instruction manual for the next ten years. It is a voter-approved guide—not a new law or ordinance. It does not change private property rights or raise taxes. Instead, it serves as a roadmap that binds town government to the goals you choose, ensuring your tax dollars are spent efficiently on economic development, housing, and infrastructure.

What’s Next?
Before this goes to a final vote at Town Meeting, the Selectboard will be hosting a formal Public Hearing to hear your feedback, take comments, and answer questions.

🗓️ Date: Tuesday, May 26, 2026
⏰ Time: 5:30 PM
📍 Location: Municipal Building, Council Room

This is your opportunity to look at the blueprint for our town’s future—from downtown revitalization and the Skowhegan River Park to protecting our rural spaces and managing municipal infrastructure. Come ask questions, get the facts, and see how we are working to grow Skowhegan responsibly while easing long-term tax pressure.

See you there!
