June 1 is beginning of Hurricane Season

Your house might be built to withstand 110 mph winds, but can the foundation hold up against two feet of moving water? A single storm can trigger any of these threats throughout the region. Make sure you are preparing for the risks specific to your location.

Every property will face their own unique threats. These threats will directly influence how you prepare. Since Delaware is the lowest lying state in the country, hazards such as flooding and coastal storm surge pose significant risk to coastal communities.

Finding out if your home has any vulnerabilities specific to your area can further strengthen any safety measures and family evacuation plans in place.

The water is so tempting: play safe

May is Water Safety Month and the start of pool and beach season. As we head into warmer weather, it is a good time to remember that safety in and around water matters.

💧 Supervise children at all times. A “water watcher” means no distractions
đź’§ Wear life jackets when needed, especially for weak & non-swimmers
đź’§ Learn CPR: It can save a life
đź’§ Never swim alone & always use the buddy system
đź’§ Be aware of conditions like currents, depth, and posted rules
đź’§ Secure pools and water access points when not in use

Fun in the water starts with safety first.

Weather looks Glorious!

While a shower or thunderstorm is still possible this evening mainly across Delmarva, a cold front starts to bring in a refreshing air mass overnight which will then be in place right into the weekend.
