✨NEW BOOK SPOTLIGHT✨ We hope everyone has a wonderful Juneteenth holiday! The library is closed today, but if you're looking for an excellent work of adult non-fiction, try "Freedom Lost, Freedom Won: A Personal History of America" by Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Eugene Robinson. Robinson tells the story of 200 years of American history through the eyes of his own family, starting with the story of his great-great-grandfather who was sold as a slave on March 27, 1829 to a wealthy white entrepreneur. The author's extensive family research is placed within a larger historical context, tracing the repeated cycles of structural racism that African Americans, including his family, have fought and, at times, overcome. Place a hold on this book through our website, or call or visit your local branch during our open hours.
