What a day! The City of Snyder would like to send a huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support our first Mexican Independence Day Cultural Celebration.
It was a day filled with good food, friends, family, music, culture, and plenty of fun.
The Stars "R" Us Tumbling & Cheer had us on the edge of our seats with their incredible stunts.
Sandra Aguirre Magana made us feel like kids again with her wonderful story about El Pájaro Cu. A special thank you to Amy Hodges with the Scurry County Library for helping us bring storytelling into our celebration and for supporting this opportunity to share stories, culture, and imagination with our community.
Humanities Texas helped bring Mariachi to Snyder, allowing us to experience the incredible music and artistry. Mariachi Azteca - Lubbock charmed us with their performance and left us wanting more of this rich Mexican musical tradition. Thank you, for helping make this special performance possible!
We had so much fun watching the skills of our co****le players that we completely forgot to take pictures! If you got some, please tag us so we can see them!
And then there was the dunk tank! You surprised us with your throwing skills, and not one of our City leaders left dry! Thank you to Dr. Duncan, Dr. Gore and Dr. Sharp, Principal Juarez and Wilson with Snyder Independent School District for bringing the athletes out. Also, a special thank you to City Manager Eli Torres, Councilmember Kenny Miller and Cogdell CEO Collin McLarty for joining in with some fun and spirited taunting of the participants. Our camera guy was on ball duty so if you have pictures, please share in the comments. So much fun!
The foam party was the perfect way to beat yesterday's heat, and we saw quite a few brave souls taking their shot at staying on the bull for eight seconds! Shout out to M&M Party Rentals LLC and their attentive staff for making it easy for us celebrate and bring joy to the event.
We were also proud to showcase some of our incredible local talent. Jax Huestis and Keegan Bufkin played guitar and sang for us, as they always do so wonderfully, getting us ready for an incredible evening with La Reina, Los Texmaniacs, and Grupo Stampede.
What a show! It was so great to see everyone dancing cumbia, enjoying the music, and celebrating together. Shout-out to Gabriel Castillo with Happy Sound for helping make it all possible!
What about our vendors? You showed up with your best offerings and truly helped create the festive atmosphere. You endured the heat all day and then scrambled to pack out for last night's storm. We could not have done this without you, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you brought to the celebration.
Thank you to Scurry County and the Downtown Merchants for allowing us to take over your space and for being such gracious hosts.
Shout out to the Office of Emergency Management for helping keep everyone cool and providing important weather updates throughout the day.
It was also great to see Snyder Police Department and Scurry County EMS out keeping everyone safe and showing remarkable restraint during the bands. We are told no dancing on duty is somewhere in their personnel policies. 🤔
Thank you to Public Works and the Snyder Fire Department for helping keep the event running smoothly and providing support and services throughout the day.
Thank you to Caliper for providing the facilities that helped make the event comfortable.
For those who weren't able to make it, the Snyder Chamber of Commerce - Discover Snyder has some exciting events planned later this year, so there will be plenty more opportunities to get out and enjoy our community. We also want to thank Sandra, Rene, and Josh for their awesome support as co-hosts.
A very special thank you goes to City Manager Eli Torres and Administrative Assistant Diana Zapata. Events like this don't simply happen, they require countless hours of conversations, emails, scheduling, budgeting, coordination, problem solving, and attention to detail. Their dedication helped turn an idea into a celebration that our community could enjoy, and we are incredibly grateful for all of their hard work.
We are already making plans to bring this celebration back next year. We learned a lot, listened to your suggestions, and hope to make the event even bigger and better as we move forward.
Here are just a few moments from yesterday in Snyder. Again, thank you to everyone who came out, participated, performed, volunteered, supported, and helped make our first Mexican Independence Day & Cultural Celebration one to remember!
We are grateful for the memories we made together and excited about what's ahead.
See you next year, Snyder!
