Texas law requires homeowners, excavation companies, and contractors to call 811 two business days before digging. When using this free service, the caller is connected to a local call center that notifies area utility companies of the location where digging will occur.

Professional locators then arrive at the digging site to mark the approximate locations of underground lines with flags, spray paint, or both.

August is Emergency Management Professionals Month, and the City of Snyder is proud to recognize Jay Callaway for his dedication to protecting our community and serving Texans across the state.

Jay works year round to help Snyder prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies by coordinating planning, training, and response efforts with local, state, and federal partners. His commitment to emergency preparedness helps ensure our community is ready when it matters most.

Jay has played a pivotal role in bringing the new outdoor emergency warning siren system to Snyder and Scurry County, helping strengthen our community's ability to receive timely alerts during severe weather and other emergencies.

Most recently, he was deployed to South Texas to assist communities impacted by flooding following heavy rains, providing emergency management support during a time of great need. His willingness to serve wherever he is needed reflects the professionalism and dedication that define the emergency management profession.

Emergency management is often behind the scenes work that many people never see, but its impact is felt when communities need it most.

Please join us in thanking Jay Callaway for his service to the City of Snyder, the State of Texas, and the people he serves every day.
