NBC 10 WJAR Wakefield getting some well-deserved Rhode Island love 🐔🥗 🥪

Molly Levine came by for National Chicken Salad Day as Stop & Shop recognized Wakefield on June 3 (Matt’s birthday nbd) as the birthplace of the first American version of chicken salad, created here in 1863.

It’s awesome because I love chicken salad sandwiches and also one of those small local history moments that makes South Kingstown special. As our town manager said, you can’t make this stuff up 😂

Thanks to WJAR for covering it, and thanks again to Stop & Shop Del's Lemonade. Who woulda thunk it.

🏨 👏 🎊 Happy to join Southern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce for the ribbon cutting and tour of the newly renovated Holiday Inn- South Kingstown this week!

With only a handful of hotels in , it really matters when companies invest in their properties, their guests, and our local economy. The new rooms and refreshed spaces look great, and it’s a strong reminder that South Kingstown continues to be a place where people want to visit, stay, and do business.

Congratulations to the team at Holiday Inn South Kingstown (Newport Area) on the renovation, and thank you to SRI for hosting such a great event. 👏

Also, if you have not checked out Locanda Restaurant inside the hotel yet, it is absolutely worth a visit. Great food, great space, and a great addition to the property.

And of course, always good to see Rhody Ram 🐏 out in the community. 💙🐏

FYI on Wardens Pond 🚨

⚠️ RIDOH and DEM are advising people and pets to avoid contact with Worden Pond in South Kingstown due to harmful algae blooms (HABs) caused by blue-green algae (cyanobacteria).

Avoid until further notice:

• Swimming, fishing, boating, or kayaking
• Don’t drink untreated water or eat fish from the pond
• Keep pets out of the water

HABs can move around, so use caution in all areas of the pond.

😊 Only in South Kingstown do you get to celebrate National Chicken Salad Day in the actual birthplace of American chicken salad 🐔🥗 Cause folks, did you know that… chicken salad originated at Town Meats in Wakefield in 1833?? Me neither. 🌞

Today in Wakefield, Stop & Shop recognized our village’s place in food history and helped celebrate the original chicken salad recipe, first created here in 1863. They also teamed up with Del’s Lemonade to provide lunch for Town employees, which was a really nice gesture. They even gave us at plaque honoring this excellent feat of sandwiching. 🥪

It was a fun little reminder that South Kingstown history shows up in all kinds of ways, including through something as simple and classic as chicken salad. Wakefield has always had its own character, and moments like this are a good chance to celebrate that. We’re 303 years young and still a few tricks up her sleeve.

HBD to my best friend and son of –my brother Matt!! 👨🏻🎉 🎈 when he wakes up and reads this because he lives in Hawaii I hope that it starts off an amazing day with his amazing wife Kate and their puppy Melly 🐶 and more : ) if I have any guess of bday plans, Matt will be heading to the beach 🏝️ in his rainbow 🌈 🩴 sandals, cracking up a Miller light, and being present as he always is. I love you Matt. Wish I was there to celebrate with you. We’ll get to celebrate this summer. Love, your little brother, Jay 💙

A beautiful morning for coffee and conversation with constituents of ☕️ 🌞 thanks to Sean and Sam for stopping in too! I’ll tell you what: the Dunkin' on Old Tower Hill Rd in Wakefield probably makes the fastest cup of coffee I’ve ever seen in my life 👏 very impressive. Hope everyone’s having a great Sunday!

☕️ Since it’s almost the end of May, holy 🐮, and we’re running out of weekend space, we’re going to have our May Coffee & Conversation with the Councilman this Sunday morning at Dunkin’ on Old Tower Hill Road. ☕️

Since being elected in 2024, this will be my 16th Coffee & Conversation, and honestly, it has become one of my favorite parts of serving on the Town Council. No speeches, no big agenda, just coffee, questions, ideas, concerns, real conversations, and supporting local with neighbors in South Kingstown.

Come by for 10 minutes or stay the whole time. I’d love to hear what’s on your mind.
