🎒 SCHOOL’S BACK TOMORROW! 🍎

SSFUSD students head back to class Thursday, which means our morning and afternoon commutes are about to look a little different.

As everyone gets back into the routine, please give yourself a few extra minutes and keep an eye out around our schools:

🚸 Slow down and watch for students in crosswalks and around bus stops
đźš— Avoid double-parking, red zones, and blocking driveways during drop-off and pickup
đź‘€ Stay off the phone and expect a little more foot and vehicle traffic
🛑 Follow directions from crossing guards and school staff
⚠️ Remember: South City school zones are 15 MPH when children are present

A few extra minutes of patience can make a big difference. Let’s help get everyone to school and then back home safely. 🚌📚

PROACTIVE POLICING LEADS TO THREE ILLEGAL FIREARM RECOVERIES

Over the past few weeks, proactive enforcement by our police officers has resulted in three separate arrests and the recovery of three illegally possessed, loaded fi****ms.

In one incident at the end of July, Corporal Goff contacted a man wanted in connection with a prior weapons case. During the contact, officers recovered a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen out of Miami Beach FL, along with suspected co***ne.

In two additional incidents, Officer Lahlouh’s proactive vehicle contacts led to the recovery of two more loaded, concealed fi****ms. One was an unregistered privately manufactured “ghost gun” equipped with a threaded barrel. Officers also recovered more than 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine and suspected oxycodone during the investigations.

The three suspects were arrested for a variety of alleged firearm, narcotics, parole and related offenses.

As new technology and modern policing tools continue to improve our capabilities, these cases are also a reminder that good old-fashioned police work still matters. Officer observations, intuition, and experience and thorough follow-up directly led to three dangerous fi****ms being removed from our streets.

Outstanding work by Corporal Goff, Officer Lahlouh and all assisting officers. Officer Lahlouh’s efforts resulted in two separate firearm arrests in less than two weeks.

Some mail collected from South San Francisco-area USPS collection boxes may have been affected by the recent burglary at the San Bruno Post Office.

Take a look at your accounts, make sure any mailed checks reached the intended recipient, and report anything suspicious using the information below.

Celebrating 32 Years of Service

Yesterday, we had the privilege of honoring Master Sergeant Michael Toscano as he retired after 32 years of dedicated service to the South San Francisco Police Department and our community.

Mike began his career with SSFPD in 1994 and served in a wide range of assignments throughout the department, including patrol, field training, the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force, the Neighborhood Response Team, and Crime Prevention and Planning. He rose through the ranks from Police Officer to Corporal, Sergeant, and ultimately Master Sergeant.

Over the course of his career, Mike became known as a trusted leader, mentor, instructor, and advocate for officer wellness. He received numerous commendations, including two Medals of Valor, and made a lasting impact on generations of officers and community members alike.

Please join us in congratulating Master Sergeant Toscano on his well-earned retirement. We thank him for his outstanding service, leadership, and commitment to South San Francisco, and wish him and his family good health, happiness, and many great adventures ahead.

It’s an annual nationwide event that brings neighbors and public safety partners together to strengthen relationships, build community trust, and promote safer neighborhoods. On 11/11/2017 South San Francisco police officers responded to the 200 block of El Camino Real in response to a report of an automobile that struck a pedestrian in the southbound lanes. Officers located an unconscious female lying in the street. The suspect driver fled the area in a vehicle. The South San Francisco Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.

After an extensive investigation, a 23 year-old San Francisco resident was identified as the driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian. The investigation revealed. The driver fled the country days after the collision and a felony warrant was obtained for his arrest. The driver remained at large for several years until he was recently located in Israel. The FBI, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office, and the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs worked with Israel’s Ministry of Justice and National Police to secure the arrest and return of the suspect. The FBI assisted with the suspects return to the United States and on July 14, 2026 he was brought back to face charges for the fatal hit-and-run.

The suspect was booked into the San Mateo County jail for hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. For additional details, please refer to the official press release.

Building a stronger community goes beyond responding to calls. It also means showing up wherever help is needed.

This weekend, Officer Wong spent time at South City Grocery Outlet, connecting with shoppers and encouraging donations to support the South City St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. Every contribution helps local families, and we’re grateful to everyone who stopped by to lend a hand.

A special thank you to Grocery Outlet for hosting events like these and for continuing to support South San Francisco through their annual Battle of the Badges fundraiser benefiting our Holiday Toy and Food Drive.

On 07/14/26 at approximately 5:15 P.M., South San Francisco Police officers responded to a residence on the 300 block of Arroyo Drive on the report of a burglary. Upon arrival, officers located two suspects who forced entry into the vacant residence. Evidence of identity theft, a counterfeit currency operation as well as various controlled substances were also located.
Both suspects were placed under arrest and booked into the San Mateo County Jail without incident. This case remains under investigation and anyone with information pertaining to the case is encouraged to call 650-877-8900 and ask to speak with the burglary detective.
