Springfield City Hall 2027 Gallery Series

For TWO MORE WEEKS the Springfield Arts Commission is accepting applications for the 2027 Springfield City Hall Gallery Series. ‼️Apply by SEPTEMBER 14, 2027 at 5:00 p.m.‼️

The City Hall Gallery provides exhibition opportunities for both two- and three-dimensional artwork from solo artists and group exhibitors. The gallery serves as an important venue for emerging and established artists to share their work, engage with the community, and contribute to Springfield’s vibrant arts and culture landscape.

Throughout the year, visitors experience a diverse range of artistic expression, including painting, drawing, mixed media, fiber arts, and other contemporary and traditional forms. The gallery fosters meaningful connections between artists and the public while celebrating the creativity and talent of regional artists.

Applications will be accepted through September 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. To learn more and apply, visit:

Check out a Cultural Pass for a free pair of tickets to Work Wife at the Hult Center, a great musical event. The cultural passes will be available for checkout on Saturday, August 29th at the Springfield Public Library while supplies last. The show starts Saturday, September 5th at 8 p.m at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts, City of Eugene!

There’s a cascade of moments at the end of “Strangers” – the single that leads off Work Wife’s new 2024 EP Waste Management – that marks a change for the Brooklyn folk-rock project. When chief songwriter Meredith Lampe’s rumination on loneliness trails off into near-silence, her voice returns suddenly harmonized by a raucous chorus singing with her in kind, recasting her story as a solitary experience shared in infinite parallel. The band responds by wringing out their final bars for all they’re worth, and the post-take laughter and “that was perfect” chatter is left in, the joy in the room palpable. Lampe may be disillusioned, but she’s no longer alone.

We join the rest of the library world in mourning the loss of Dolly Parton, an amazing musician, an incredibly kind person, and an advocate for children, books, and education. We are proud to connect people to the Imagination Library that she started in honor of her father who never learned to read.

Dolly famously said, "You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children," and we are proud to continue her work of connecting kids to books.

As the Imagination Library said in their post, "Dolly, we will always love you."

Join us for a FREE documentary screening Wednesday, Sept 2, 5:30 p.m., followed by a Q&A with Cuitlahuac Arreola Martinez and Matthew Olmos.

As one of Mexico's 68 Indigenous languages, Nahuatl has over 1.6 million speakers based on 2020 data. It is actually the second most spoken language in the country, after Spanish. However, many of these languages face the risk of disappearing due to language shift - a process where Spanish replaces them due to marginalization and discrimination.

The Q&A will be facilitated in English and/or Spanish, depending on who attends. This event is a collaboration with the library and the Speaknahuatl.com collective.
