People don’t realize how HARD it is to win a state title in Illinois. It’s widely considered a Top 5 state for basketball talent by scouts and coaches throughout the country. It has ONLY 4 classes with over 750 schools competing for those 4 titles. To win a Class 3A or Class 4A title is historical. You have to compete with the Chicago Public League, Chicago Catholic League and Chicago Suburban League…all of which produce D1 talent year in and year out. Not to mention you have to get through the Central which is going to have a juggernaut from Decatur, Peoria or Springfield every year!! And you have to go against the Southwest Conference all that includes all the kids you played against growing up that want to chop your head off every time. The actual term “March Madness” was popularized by the high school tournament in Illinois. Congratulations to East Side! All the players and coaches!
