Beginning Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., the sale, possession, and use of kratom and kratom products will be prohibited in North Dakota under Governor Kelly Armstrong's Executive Order declaring a public health emergency. Additionally, 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), a primary psychoactive compound found in many kratom products, has been classified by the North Dakota Board of Pharmacy as a Schedule I controlled substance.
Consumers who believe they may be dependent on kratom, 7-OH, or other kratom derivatives and are concerned about recovery or withdrawal are encouraged to call or text the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline or contact the 211 Information and Referral Helpline for assistance.
The Steele Police Department encourages all residents to be aware of these changes and to discontinue the purchase, possession, and use of kratom products to comply with the order. We appreciate your cooperation in helping keep our community informed and safe.

Steele Police Department- Steele, ND would like to make the public aware that there is a college student from the European Country of Estonia in town: Katrin Piirimaa Book Girl.
Katrin is a university student from Europe doing a summer internship with an educational company from Nashville, TN.
She has checked in with the Kidder County Courthouse to let you know she's around.
Katrin will be meeting up with families in the Cities of Tappen, Dawson, Steele and Tuttle selling educational materials that:
1) Help with ACT preparation by Princeton Review
2) Help with college credit classes by McGraw Hill
3) Study guides that help parents to help kids with new math & other subjects
4) Study guides that save time doing homework & test preparation
5) And a jump start program for the pre-k kids that give a head start for school.

Want to report a problem like no water, or a loose dog, another type of ordinance violation. Even if you just have a question about water bills, garbage pickup or something else just text a key word to the number in the picture. Then answer the questions to send your information to the city. In an emergency this does not replace 911 and should only be used to report ordinance violations that are not emergencies.
