May 20th had all hands on deck and then some. Kidder County Ambulance along with Steele Fire, Steele Police, Kidder County Health Unit, Kidder County School, Kidder County Sherrif's Dept. Wells and Logan County Sheriff's Depts, ND Highway Patrol, Fire Depts. from Tuttle, Robinson, Pettibone and Dawson, SECC, DES, Exercise Evaluators from BFD, Kidder County Emergency Management and SC Emergency Management and our amazing walking wounded all participated in a full scale Active Shooter incident. Over 100 participants staged, responded, mobilized, acted, became Incident Command to start all wheels spinning. Thank you to all who gave your time and skills to make this exercise possible. We have a lot to reflect upon but one thing we do know is that we have amazing teams in our county that are willing to do their part when emergencies happen! We are forever grateful!

The Super 7 received their certificates after 6 hours of hands on training at the KCA Babysitting Course held today at the KCA Hall. 7 aspiring babysitters came with an empty tool box but left with a bag full of knowledge and skills and activities to take with them on future babysitting experiences. From feeding infants and toddlers to changing diapers and potty training, no stone was left unturned in knowing the skills needed in the care of children. Students practiced hands on First aid and CPR and learned about making a 911 call. They took note on dangers involving medicines and poisons within the home. They ventured into the kitchen to cook up a safe and friendly meal for all ages and learned how to clean up when time allows while babysitting. All in all today was a great day of learning. Congatulations to our participants for a job well done.

Kidder County Ambulance, Steele Police, Kidder County Sheriff's Dept. and Steele Volunteer Fire made their way up to the school Thursday night in preparation of the up coming active shooter exercise to be held Wed. MAY 20 at the school. We have all been working on our emergency response skills and tactics involving mass casualty incidents(MCI) Keep in mind an MCI isn't only considered because of shootings but any event that exhausts a responding service's resources such as motor vehicle accidents, large fires, natural disasters, collapsed bleachers at a football game or even a train derailment. We started the evening with updates to triage of patients and then moved our way through the school. With the help of several teams and members, patients were assessed, traiged and prepared for transport. We could not do this without the help of ALL responding agencies. Please be aware that on May 20th our services will be active throughout town participating in a complete MCI exercise at the school. Please let family, friends, children and businesses alike know of this event. Safety is first and foremost in any event taking place. If you have questions, please reach out to any of the agencies listed above

On Sunday April 26th, KCA Service held their annual meeting at the hall. Board minutes and financial reports were read and approved. Our fearless leader welcomed all and shared accomplishments, goals and awards with members who were present. Our KCA Service board then celebrated her! Mona Thompson has been an integral component of EMS both local and statewide. She has been with KCA for 35 years! She started out as a driver, became an EMT, then EMT-I, and went through the Paramedic program. She was an instructor at MedCenter One for 15 years before being hired as the KCA Coordinator. Mona states she is most proud of her skills in education, training and working beside all of the past, present and future members of KCA. We say THANK YOU for your service in the field and classroom and behind the scenes at KCA. A Mama Bear well chosen!
