Please share and let’s get the word out!!

It’s official!! Lamar County is now under a burn ban. The Board Of Supervisors passed the ban this morning and it will be strictly enforced. It will either be lifted on October 31 or extended if there’s no rain. Please save yourself a hefty fine and don’t light an outside fire. Not a fire pit, no trash fires or controlled burns. Thank you for your cooperation!

Thank you Central Lamar VFD, the Town of Sumrall and to Lifeguard Ambulance for your help this morning! At 5:49 a.m. we were called out to a mobile home fire, with another home directly behind, that was in danger. Unfortunately, the first home was a total loss, but we made a good save on the second one.

Today, we honor and remember a dedicated 911 dispatcher who spent her time being a calm voice in the chaos, a lifeline in moments of fear, and a helping hand when someone needed it most.

Though dispatchers often work behind the scenes, their impact is immeasurable. They answer the calls, send help, offer reassurance, and carry the weight of countless emergencies, all while remaining a steady voice for others.

Today, we mourn the loss of one of our own. Our hearts go out to her family, friends, coworkers, and the entire dispatch family during this difficult time.

This goes for the Sumrall area, as well. PLEASE don’t light an outside fire.

Fighting wildfires takes dedication around the clock; day and night, 24/7. 🔥

This stunning (and a little eerie, just in time for October!) nighttime photo captures a dozer working along the fireline during the Area 13 Wildfire on September 29th. Area Forester Drew Fletcher captured this photo while he and fellow wildland firefighters kept watch and protected our woods that night, battling not just this 2 acres in NW Tishomingo County, but two other fires that same night!

While images like this show the dramatic reality of what our crews face, we need your help to prevent these fires before they start. As conditions stay dry, please remember: Always check local burn restrictions, never leave a fire unattended, and do your part to keep Mississippi's forests safe. 🌲💚
