Today, the Braxton County Firefighters Association proudly recognizes and honors the brave men and women who dedicate themselves to protecting our communities and serving others.

From our volunteer firefighters and law enforcement officers to our EMS providers, 911 dispatchers, rescue personnel, and all those who answer the call, we thank you for your courage, commitment, and sacrifices. ❤️💙

Behind every emergency response is someone willing to leave the comfort of home, step into the unknown, and help a neighbor in need. Your service does not go unnoticed, and the difference you make in the lives of others matters more than words can express.

Wildfire Training 🚒🔥

A great night of learning and hands-on training!

Saturday night, October 24th, firefighters from across Braxton County took part in a 5-hour wildfire training course with Forester Johnny King.

We started in the classroom learning about wildfire tools, techniques, and fire behavior, then headed out to the dam for hands-on training. We put what we learned into practice by working on fire lines around the lights, simulating real-life wildfire conditions. 🔥🪓

Afterward, we discussed what went well, what we could improve, and how to be better prepared when the real call comes in.

A BIG THANK YOU to Forester Johnny King for sharing his knowledge and helping our firefighters build the skills needed to protect our communities! 👏

🔥🌲 Braxton County Junior Firefighter Training – Wildland Fire Operations 🌲🔥

Today, the Braxton County Junior Firefighters had the opportunity to train with Johnny King of the West Virginia Department of Forestry, learning valuable wildland firefighting skills, techniques, and safety practices that can make a difference when responding to an actual wildland fire.

Throughout the training, our junior firefighters learned the importance of understanding the terrain, reading topographic maps, and utilizing them to navigate and make informed decisions on the fireground. They also received instruction on fire shelter deployment, fireline construction using fire rakes and leaf blowers, and drip torch operations and ignition techniques used in wildland fire suppression.

Just as importantly, the training emphasized understanding the proper sequence of operations — from assessing the terrain and identifying hazards to establishing firelines, utilizing appropriate suppression techniques, and understanding the role of specialized equipment in wildland fire operations. Every skill has a purpose, and knowing when and how to apply it safely is just as important as knowing how to perform it.

We are incredibly thankful to Johnny King and the West Virginia Department of Forestry for sharing their knowledge, experience, and expertise with our next generation of firefighters. Opportunities like this allow our junior members to develop practical skills, strengthen their decision-making abilities, and gain a deeper understanding of the teamwork, discipline, and safety awareness required in the fire service.

Our junior firefighters are more than just the future of the fire service — they are developing the knowledge, work ethic, and commitment that will help carry our volunteer fire departments forward for years to come. Every training opportunity is another step toward building safer, better-prepared firefighters and stronger communities. 🚒

🚒🔥 Braxton County Junior Firefighter Recruitment 🔥🚒

Today, the Braxton County Junior Firefighter Recruitment team had the pleasure of visiting Mr. Shingler’s class at Braxton County High School (BCHS)!

During our visit, we demonstrated our turnout gear and rescue equipment while discussing the many positive opportunities that come with joining the volunteer fire service. We highlighted how becoming a junior firefighter helps develop valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, discipline, communication, and problem-solving—skills that can benefit young people in virtually any career path.

For those interested in pursuing careers in the fire service, emergency response, or the medical field, the Junior Firefighter Program can be an excellent stepping stone toward a rewarding future. More importantly, it provides young people with the opportunity to serve their community, build confidence, gain hands-on experience, and become part of something bigger than themselves. 🚒

We would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to BCHS, Mr. Shingler, WVDOF Forester Johnny King, and all the volunteer firefighters who took time out of their day to participate and help showcase the positive opportunities available through our Junior Firefighter Program. Your support helps us inspire the next generation of community leaders and first responders!

Braxton County Ladder 871 Training

Braxton County firefighters participated in hands-on training with Ladder Truck 871, focusing on safe and effective operation of the apparatus and its aerial ladder system.

The training covered the proper use of the new communication headsets, apparatus setup and positioning, and establishing a water supply by connecting to a fire hydrant. Members also reviewed the correct use of safety harnesses, along with important guidelines for safely climbing and operating the aerial ladder.

Firefighters practiced flowing water through the ladder system while learning the proper use of the operating controls, emphasizing communication, coordination, and awareness throughout each evolution.

Continued training is essential to maintaining readiness, building confidence, and ensuring our firefighters can operate safely and effectively when our community needs us most.

Thank you to everyone who participated and continues to dedicate their time to training and serving the people of Braxton County!
