My aide, Morgan, visited Cap City Video Lounge today for a screening of "Without Shade, Without Rest." The documentary focuses on the realities faced by Florida's outdoor workers, particularly immigrant agricultural laborers, and examines the dangerous conditions they endure while working through extreme heat. It documents a the decades-long fight for safe conditions led by workers' coalitions and explores the state legislation that preempts local heat illness protections. Learning about these topics is essential to understanding how we can help workers and families in Florida.

Thank you to Tallahassee Workers Assembly, Tallahassee Community Area Response Equipo, and Tallahassee Immigrant Rights Alliance for holding this screening and for the panel discussion afterwards.

Every person who works outdoors deserves access to water, rest, safe working conditions, and dignity. While the legislature has preempted local governments from requiring employers to provide water breaks or heat protections, the City should expand access to hydration stations, cooling zones, and increase and protect our tree canopy, among other measures.

As temperatures and heat indexes continue to rise across Florida, let's all remember to look out for each other and stay safe!

My aide, Morgan, had a wonderful time visiting the Kearney Center for a workshop on heat illness prevention. Those experiencing homelessness are thirty times more likely to suffer from heat-related illnesses, and as temperatures continue to rise through the summer, it is essential to understand what we can do to protect our unhoused population. My office will continue to support the public health and safety of all Tallahassee residents.

A huge thank you to the Kearney Center for everything they do to help those experiencing homelessness. Be sure to stay safe in the heat!

Last night we celebrated our dear Terrie—my aide for the past three years—who is moving onto law school this fall. For the past three years, Terrie has been my rock and served the residents of Tallahassee honorably. If you’ve had the privilege of knowing Terrie, you know her by her brilliant smile, infectious positivity, and servant’s heart. She impressed me from the start with her intellect, tenacity, and thoughtfulness.

While I will miss her terribly, I’m so proud of her for taking this next step and know she’s going to shine wherever she ends up next!

Love you, Terrie! ❤️

Today I had the opportunity to attend the Heart and Skills Connections Inclusion Cafe Graduation. This program supports individuals with developmental disabilities across Tallahassee in gaining workforce training, building confidence, and working towards independence. It was so special to see these individuals graduate after months of hard work and see families celebrate with each other.

Thank you to this organization for your work in our community and for having me!
