For many students, the start of a new semester comes with financial challenges.

Our mission is to create a path to self-sufficiency for anyone facing poverty. That means stepping in before a tough semester turns into a bigger crisis. Help support struggling university students by donating school supplies and essential items.

What happens when you donate to Beat the Heat?

Your water bottles, cooling towels, sunscreen, bug spray, and fans go directly to The Kearney Center outreach teams working across the Big Bend every day.

For someone living outside, that small act of care is often the first step toward trust – and toward the case management and health services that can change their story.

Summer essentials are survival essentials, so make a difference today! kearneycenter.org/beat-the-heat-2026/

A few months ago, our team piloted a new Re-engagement Program. It's already changing lives.

One woman had been out of the Center for a full year, still experiencing homelessness. Through our re-engagement program, our team reconnected her with a case worker and got her re-enrolled.

She was granted an extension to keep working her plan, and within 90 days, she moved into sustainable housing. Along the way, we connected her with Bank of America for financial education, budgeting, and savings skills to help her stay stable for the long term.

She's one of the first success stories to come out of this program, and a preview of what's possible as we expand it. This is what recovery looks like: patient, personal, and built one relationship at a time.

Want to help us reach more neighbors like her? Give today: kearneycenter.org/ways-to-give/

Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming Florida State’s Senior Associate Athletics Director Scott Trulock to The Kearney Center for a Heat Safety Workshop focused on one of the biggest dangers our neighbors experiencing homelessness face this time of year: Florida's extreme heat. ☀️

Scott shared practical, lifesaving tips on recognizing the signs of heat exhaustion and preventing heat-related illness through proper hydration, electrolytes, cooling towels, lightweight clothing, shade, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day.

We're incredibly grateful to Scott for taking the time to share his expertise and help equip both our clients and staff with knowledge that can make a real difference.

Now, you can help put these lessons into action.

As part of our Beat the Heat campaign, we're collecting essential summer supplies to help protect our neighbors living outdoors. Your donation of bottled water, cooling towels, sunscreen, bug spray, hats, non-battery-operated fans, and other heat relief items can have an immediate impact.

💚Donate through our Amazon Wishlist or drop off items at The Kearney Center, 2650 Major James Morgan Jr. Way: kearneycenter.org/beat-the-heat-2026/

A record-breaking month. Countless fresh starts.

While we're celebrating these life-changing successes, the reality is that many of our neighbors are still facing the dangers of extreme summer heat.

That's why we're asking our community to help us Beat the Heat. ☀️
