Last week, we had the privilege of welcoming Florida State’s Senior Associate Athletics Director Scott Trulock to The Kearney Center for a Heat Safety Workshop focused on one of the biggest dangers our neighbors experiencing homelessness face this time of year: Florida's extreme heat. ☀️
Scott shared practical, lifesaving tips on recognizing the signs of heat exhaustion and preventing heat-related illness through proper hydration, electrolytes, cooling towels, lightweight clothing, shade, and avoiding prolonged sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day.
We're incredibly grateful to Scott for taking the time to share his expertise and help equip both our clients and staff with knowledge that can make a real difference.
Now, you can help put these lessons into action.
As part of our Beat the Heat campaign, we're collecting essential summer supplies to help protect our neighbors living outdoors. Your donation of bottled water, cooling towels, sunscreen, bug spray, hats, non-battery-operated fans, and other heat relief items can have an immediate impact.
💚Donate through our Amazon Wishlist or drop off items at The Kearney Center, 2650 Major James Morgan Jr. Way: kearneycenter.org/beat-the-heat-2026/
