🤝 Teamwork in action!

Health Science Fundamentals students took on the challenge of the Human Knot, putting their teamwork and communication skills to the test! Students worked together to problem-solve, resolve conflicts, communicate effectively, and cooperate with one another—all while working to untangle their knots. 🧩

Learning important skills doesn’t always happen at a desk! 💙

🌞Beating the Heat in Elementary PE🥏⛳

With the Florida heat at the beginning of the school year, elementary PE has been finding creative ways to stay active while keeping the intensity a little lower! Students have been learning and practicing three new sports-- bocce, frisbee golf, and traditional golf.

Along the way, students are developing skills such as throwing, aiming, accuracy, distance control, hand-eye coordination, balance, strategy, and patience while learning the rules and etiquette of each activity

Most importantly, these lessons are about more than learning a new sport. We want students to discover physical activities they can enjoy throughout their lives-- activities that can be adapted for different ages, abilities, and seasons.

Staying active doesn't have to mean running laps or playing a competitive sport. Sometimes it means grabbing a frisbee, swinging a golf club, or enjoying a friendly game of bocce with family and friends.

Keep building skills, finding activities you enjoy, and creating a lifelong love of movement! 😎💪🏼

This week we kicked off our teacher research class! We are focused on becoming truly reflective practitioners, examining instruction, analyzing student learning, and continuously refining our craft.

As a laboratory school, inquiry isn’t just something we do; it’s built directly into our school culture. We are thrilled to dive into this work and keep fostering a community where learning never stops for students or educators!

Last week we were thrilled to host doctoral students from FSU's Instructional Systems and Learning Technologies (ISLT) program for an inspiring campus visit!
This marks Year 2 of our FSU-FSUS ISLT Research-Practice Partnership, where K-12 teachers and university researchers will continue to collaborate an co-design explorations.

Field trips like this bridge the gap between higher education and K-12 classrooms by allowing teachers and researchers to co-create research directly in active classrooms, while getting to know the unique students and community behind the data.

We look forward to another impactful year of learning, research, and collaboration! 📚💡

Our September Research Spotlight features an exciting Project SPARK collaboration sponsored by the FSU Office of Research! Led by Dr. Haley Mehta (FSUS) and Dr. Roxanne Hughes (FSU), FSUS secondary science teachers are taking inquiry-based learning to the next level! We are collaborating on a multi-faceted project to design high-quality, hands-on laboratory experiences that support vertical progressions across middle school grade levels.

Through this impactful work, Mr. Moran, Ms. Evans, Mrs. Wallace, Mrs. Dissmore, and Dr. Screws are gaining deeper insights not only into their students' learning styles, but into their own teaching strategies as well. 🧪🥼✨

🍎 A bushel of learning happened in Mrs. Adank’s 1st grade classroom! 🍎

Our first graders enjoyed an apple-themed week filled with hands-on learning! They explored the parts of an apple, learned about the apple life cycle, conducted a sink-or-float investigation, and graphed their favorite apple colors. 📊

We wrapped up our week with a delicious treat—apple juice and apples dipped in caramel and topped with sprinkles, chocolate chips, and marshmallows! 😋🍏

What a sweet way to learn! ❤️💛

💛💛FSUS Goes Gold for Pediatric Cancer Awareness! 💛💛

Middle School Student Government Association (MS SGA) and National Junior Honors Society hosted a K-12 coin drive last week to help raise money for Ripple Kases! We were able to raise $213.45 school wide with middle school being our top givers!

On Friday, we ended the week with Go Gold Day with our golden donut delivery! In all, FSUS MS SGA has been able to raise close to $1,500 for pediatric cancer awareness! All proceeds will go to our partners The Ripple Project who make the Ripple Kases!

Inspired by the traditional Giants & Bigheads Sculptures of the San Fermín (Pamplona, Spain) and La SanSe (San Juan, Puerto Rico) festivals, our Level 1 Sculpture students are exploring the role of exaggeration, proportion, and character in sculptural design. After researching the traditions and developing their own character sketches, students used various cardboard construction techniques to transform flat cardboard into expressive 3D sculptures. We love seeing our students experiment with materials, think like sculptors, and turn a simple box into something completely their own!

Students will be participating in their own mini parade at the completion of the project to show off their hard work!

Happy Celebrate Freedom Week! 📜✨

Mr. Metz's sixth grade social studies classes celebrating by diving deep into the Declaration of Independence! Our students were completely engaged as they made real-world connections by reading the original text and discussing what freedom and independence mean to them in their own lives today. It’s inspiring to watch them take ownership of these powerful ideas!
