Thank you for visiting the Department of Health’s (DOH) page. The function of this page is to highlight, inform and promote the importance of health in families and communities statewide. DOH’s page provides an avenue through which the public can receive supportive, educational and up-to-date information to help establish and sustain a healthier future for the people of Florida. While DOH encourages viewers to actively engage in open communication on our page by contributing comments and conversations related to public health in Florida, we remind viewers that the statements and opinions expressed in posted comments represent those of the party responsible for the posting and do not reflect the overarching views or goals of DOH or the state of Florida. Grounds for removal include postings containing or suggesting any of the following:

• Profanity, obscenity or vulgarity
• Hate speech or suggestion thereof
• Off-topic and unrelated comments that do not focus on public health objectives in Florida
• Inappropriate pictures, including nudity, indecency and inhumanity in profile and posted pictures

All comments, images, links and stories posted on DOH’s page will be reviewed in as timely a manner as possible and deleted if not in compliance with the policy standards stated above. Florida has a broad public records law that requires all state government agencies to provide access to public records. Most written communications to or from state officials regarding state business are public records available to the public and media upon request. In order to comply with the state’s public records laws, DOH does not utilize messaging or instant messaging via its page as these vehicles do not allow for permanent storage of public records. A social media email account supplements these messaging services by providing the public a place to speak directly with the DOH social media team through an avenue that can store the files for public records. Please email [email protected] to address any comments, questions or concerns. In order to properly protect your privacy, we also advise visitors not to post confidential information on our page. DOH reserves the right to modify its Facebook comment policy at any time. We remain committed to creating opportunities for sharing appropriate public health-related information and fostering dialogue that reflects transparency and open government in Florida. .

September is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month – a time to recognize the resilience of Floridians living with spinal cord injuries and the importance of access to support throughout every stage of recovery. Every spinal cord injury story is different, but each one reflects incredible strength and determination.

The Florida Department of Health’s Brain and Spinal Cord Injury Program works to help individuals with spinal cord injuries access the care, services, and support they need to live as independently as possible. Our program connects individuals to rehabilitation services, adaptive equipment, case management, and community resources. Learn more about available services and supports at FloridaHealth.gov/BSCIP

Know how to spot dengue fever! 🦟

Dengue is a mosquito-borne illness that can range from mild to severe. If you develop symptoms after being in an area where dengue is present, talk with a health care provider about your symptoms and whether you should be tested.

🚨 While most dengue cases are not severe, severe dengue can become life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention. If symptoms become severe or you notice warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding, or extreme weakness, seek medical care right away.

The best way to prevent dengue is to avoid mosquito bites. Spray, Cover, and Drain. Use insect repellent, wear protective clothing, and take steps to reduce mosquitoes around your home.

Are you taking steps to keep dengue out of your community?

Dengue fever is spread from mosquito bites, so prevention starts with all of us. Mosquitoes can spread quickly, but small actions at home and in our neighborhoods can make a big difference. Take a few minutes to check around your property, eliminate places where mosquitoes can breed, and encourage your neighbors to do the same.

Together, we can reduce mosquito populations, protect our families, and help keep our community safe.

The Florida Department of Health has completed the statewide centralization of its Health Management System, bringing all 67 county health departments into one unified electronic health record environment.

Completed over 32 weekends, this major modernization effort will improve system consistency, efficiency and reliability while creating a stronger foundation for future enhancements across Florida’s public health system.

Thank you to the teams across the Department and our county health departments who made this achievement possible.
