The DJJ Office of Prevention Services recently attended the Jefferson County K–12 Back-to-School Resource Fair, connecting youth and families with essential school supplies and community resources before the start of the new school year. The event provided an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and reinforce the Office of Prevention Service’s commitment to collaboration and community engagement.

Circuit 3 probation staff recently attended an opioid awareness event in their local community. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration among community partners in addressing the ongoing opioid crisis while providing education and access to local prevention and recovery resources.

The Circuit 9 Probation team recently hosted its annual back-to-school event, welcoming local youth and families to connect with 24 service providers and DJJ probation staff volunteers. The event reflected DJJ’s commitment to connecting youth with meaningful resources, as attendees had access to mental health and substance abuse counselors, education resources, military recruiters, food and housing assistance programs, and a mobile medical unit.

The Florida Youth College celebrated another milestone as eight youth at Cypress Creek Youth Academy successfully completed the Govsphere Construction Training Program and earned their NCCER industry-recognized certifications. These nationally recognized credentials provide a strong foundation for youth and open doors to apprenticeship and employment opportunities upon returning to their home communities. Congratulations to these eight graduates for their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to building a brighter future.

At Crestview Youth Academy, Florida Youth College contracted with BDI DataLynk to provide its fiber optics training. Eight youth successfully completed the program, becoming certified fiber optic technicians and earning three industry certifications that will help make them workforce-ready and competitive for employment as they transition back into their communities

Two years in, Florida Scholars Academy (FSA) is helping DJJ youth make measurable academic progress across the state. The success of FSA is rooted in its commitment to individualized instruction, trauma-informed practices, and a belief in every student's potential. As FSA enters its third year, it remains focused on expanding academic pathways, increasing graduation rates, and preparing students for success after leaving DJJ residential commitment programs. DJJ probation staff recently celebrated 2 graduating classes from SNAP Youth Justice programs. Over the course of the program, youth engaged in scenario-based programming, allowing them to talk through realistic scenarios and discuss the pros and cons of different courses of action so that they can effectively Stop Now and Plan. Congratulations to all recent graduates!

This week’s is Assistant Chief Probation Officer Kristen Richardson, who was recently honored with the FCCD Chapter 7 Distinguished Service Award for Juvenile Justice. With over 20 years dedicated to the Department, she is cherished by staff for her work as a mentor and partner of numerous public safety operations. Thank you for your commitment to public service and Florida’s youth and families!

DJJ recently hosted its 5th Annual Youth Summit, bringing together 400 youth as well as chaperones, exhibitors, workshop presenters, DJJ staff, volunteers, and community partners. At the conclusion of the event, 10 youth were awarded scholarships sponsored by the Florida Youth Foundation, Inc in partnership with the Florida Lottery. Thank you to the DJJ Office of Prevention Services for coordinating this event, and the state agencies, providers, community partners, and participants who collaborated to make the summit a success!
