Our hearts are with our brothers and sisters at the Bainbridge Fire Department as they mourn the loss of one of their own. We stand with their family, friends, and department during this incredibly difficult time.
In moments like this, we are reminded that we need to take better care of each other. Check in on your people. Listen without judgment. If you’re struggling, reaching out is a strength, not a weakness.

Sunday evening, the Thompson Fire Department responded to a two vehicle crash in which four persons were transported to area hospitals. While we do not condone the circumstances of this crash, it was completely avoidable. This crash began with a car striking a deer, there were no injuries. While sitting in the roadway awaiting law enforcement's arrival, the initial vehicle was struck by another vehicle. This second crash resulted in four persons being transported. Luckily all injuries were non-life threatening.

Please remember if you are involved in any type of crash and your vehicle is not incapacitated, move off of the roadway. This second crash could have been avoided by moving to a driveway and waiting for law enforcement. The outcome of this crash could have been very different.

Thank you to the Hambden and Montville Fire Departments for providing additional squads for transport.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Thompson Fire Department was Awarded an AFG Grant
to Enhance Firefighter Safety with New SCBAs

Thompson, Ohio – September 24, 2025 – The Thompson Fire Department is proud to announce it has been awarded a grant through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program to purchase new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatuses (SCBAs). This funding will significantly enhance the safety and effectiveness of our firefighters as they continue to protect our community.

The AFG grant, provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), supports fire departments nationwide in acquiring critical equipment, training, and resources. The new SCBAs will replace aging equipment, ensuring firefighters have access to the most advanced respiratory protection while performing their duties in hazardous environments.

This grant is a vital step in safeguarding our first responders. With the new SCBAs, our firefighters will have improved protection, allowing them to operate with greater confidence and safety when responding to emergencies.

The grant-funded SCBAs feature state-of-the-art technology designed to enhance air supply, comfort, and communication capabilities. This upgrade not only improves firefighter safety but also increases operational efficiency during fireground operations.

The Thompon Fire Department extends its gratitude to FEMA and the AFG program for their continued support in strengthening frontline emergency services. The department looks forward to implementing these new SCBAs and continuing its commitment to community safety.
