Resilience Rising

Resilience Rising safety.healing.empowerment. Resilience Rising is in the process of becoming another one of these homes.

The sex trafficking of domestic minors is finally starting to appear in the news and subsequently resound on the conscience of the American public as well as lawmakers. Safe Harbor laws, recognizing these youth as victims of sexual abuse and exploitation instead of treating them as criminals, are slowly but surely being implemented into state laws. While all of this is progress for the cause, ther

e are still very few safe places for these children to reside once they are rescued from their abusers. Most of the youth involved in the sex trade are runaways from abusive and neglectful homes of origin or already involved in the child welfare system. There are currently only a handful of therapeutic, residential programs in the entire country created specifically for this population. We are based in Colorado but can take youth from anywhere in the country. We have the capacity to house eight female youth and two small children to accommodate teenage mothers. You can learn more about our story and our program by visiting our website at www.resilience-rising.org.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and Borderline Personality Disorder Awareness Month. Survivors of s*x trafficking have an average of 10.5 mental health challenges or disorders. RR serves youth with depression, complex PTSD, borderline personality disorder (22%), self-injury, suicidality, eating disorders, substance use disorders (100%), schizophrenia (5%), and more. Our programs incorporate evidence-based interventions like dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), trauma-informed yoga, art therapy, animal-assisted therapy, and ocean therapy. πŸ’œ

May is Foster Care Awareness Month. At Resilience Rising, 100% of survivors had child welfare involvement. Youth involved in the child welfare system are particularly vulnerable to s*x trafficking. Pimps and traffickers prey on their desire for belonging, love, and stability. "Whether in the US or around the world, children growing up without families are the most vulnerable beings on the planet" (Medefind, 2018). After aging out of foster care, these youth often become vulnerable to homelessness and re-exploitation. Resilience Rising's continuum of care - residential treatment, supportive housing, community-based mentoring - ensures that these youth are connected to a safe, stable, lifelong support system. πŸ’œ

May 3rd is National Bike Riding Day! πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

Many RR youth enjoy bike riding, and the physical and mental health benefits are numerous. Bike riding improves balance and coordination, promotes muscle strength and flexibility, and strengthens cardiovascular and joint health. Bike riding releases endorphins, reducing stress and boosting mood, and enhances adaptive coping skills. πŸ’ͺ

Resilience Rising's new adult residential facility will serve female-identifying survivors of s*xual exploitation, trafficking, and the s*x trade. The six-bed program will provide 24-hour care, supervision, and treatment for young adults ages 18-25 with mental and behavioral health needs. It will be licensed through the California Department of Social Services and will partner with child welfare for older system-involved youth and justice diversion and re-entry programs for prostitution concerns.

We need to raise a lot of startup funding for the licensing process, so if you feel inspired to contribute to the fight against the trafficking of women and children, any amount is much appreciated. πŸ™

With YOUR help, we can open this summer! πŸ’ͺ
