Resilience Rising

Resilience Rising safety.healing.empowerment. Resilience Rising is in the process of becoming another one of these homes.

The sex trafficking of domestic minors is finally starting to appear in the news and subsequently resound on the conscience of the American public as well as lawmakers. Safe Harbor laws, recognizing these youth as victims of sexual abuse and exploitation instead of treating them as criminals, are slowly but surely being implemented into state laws. While all of this is progress for the cause, ther

e are still very few safe places for these children to reside once they are rescued from their abusers. Most of the youth involved in the sex trade are runaways from abusive and neglectful homes of origin or already involved in the child welfare system. There are currently only a handful of therapeutic, residential programs in the entire country created specifically for this population. We are based in Colorado but can take youth from anywhere in the country. We have the capacity to house eight female youth and two small children to accommodate teenage mothers. You can learn more about our story and our program by visiting our website at www.resilience-rising.org.

Survival s*x involves the exchange of s*x for basic needs like food, shelter, etc. and is why homeless youth are particularly vulnerable.

One of the biggest misconceptions about child s*x trafficking is that it always involves force or coercion.
In reality, federal law recognizes that children cannot consent to commercial s*xual exploitation. Any commercial s*x act involving someone under 18 is child s*x trafficking—even if no force, fraud, or coercion is used, and even if money never changes hands.

August 8th is National Bowling Day! 🎳

Play is the work of childhood. In childhoods defined by trauma, play takes a backseat to survival, negatively affecting development, attachment, and emotion regulation. Resilience Rising prioritizes creating opportunities for play and finding joy. Weekly community outings provide residents with the opportunity to have new experiences, engage in recreation, experience prosocial community activities, practice interpersonal skills for community reentry, and navigate potentially triggering environments with staff support and enhanced skill sets.

July 23rd is World Blue Mind Day! 🩵💙🌊

Neuroscience demonstrates the profound benefits to physiological and mental health when humans engage with water. Being around the rhythmic ocean enables humans to engage their 'blue mind' which releases feel-good hormones like dopamine, serotonin, and oxytocin and allows for relaxation, restoration, and reconnection. 'Blue mind' is the antidote to 'red mind' - the hyperarousal fight or flight state that releases cortisol - and to 'gray mind' - the hypoarousal state of depression. Trauma survivors tend to oscillate between these two states of dysregulation, and 'blue mind' is a natural way to gain skills of regulation to better operate within their window of tolerance and build resilience.

July 15th is World Youth Skills Day. Youth aging out of foster care are often behind their peers in life skills and benefit from adult mentors who help them navigate adulthood. In addition to the enhancement of educational and vocational skills, RR empowers transition-age youth (TAY) with the development of independent living skills. Resilience Rising coaches and helps youth practice skills like: menu planning, grocery shopping, cooking, accessing healthcare and social services, scheduling appointments, navigating public transportation, financial literacy, civic engagement, and protective parenting. 💪💜

Bonus points if you guess the theme of the bedroom! ✨

A former RR Denver resident who later resided in our supportive housing program in California helped to paint one of the bedrooms in our new residential program for survivors. She said, "RR was the best placement I was ever in. It's such an honor to help with the new program." It was a full circle moment, survivors helping survivors. 🫶
