In 2024, of the child passengers killed in crashes while riding with an unbuckled driver, 65% of those children were also unbuckled. This child passenger safety week, and always, parents and caregivers can model safety for their kids. Research shows there is a strong correlation between caregivers who buckle up and their child passengers’ seat belt use.

It’s Child Passenger Safety Week and it’s time to make sure your child is in the proper seat.
Is your child ready to ride without a booster seat?
It’s not just about age or height. A child should stay in a booster seat until the vehicle’s seat belt fits properly, with the lap belt lying snugly across the upper thighs and the shoulder belt crossing the chest and shoulder. Keep these tips in mind when meeting a school bus⬇

School buses are designed with safety in mind — from flashing stop-arms to high-visibility yellow paint and protective seat backing — but it's more dangerous for students to get ON and OFF the bus. 🚏

Here's how you — the driver — can help keep our kids even safer:

🛑 Stop for school buses.
🚸 Slow down in school zones and near bus stops.
📵 Stay focused and put away your cell phone.

🚔 A Friendly Sunday Reminder 🚔

As the weekend comes to a close, many of us are heading home from the lake, the beach, church, or time with family and friends.

Please remember that a few minutes saved by speeding simply isn’t worth the risk. In Alabama, speeding plays a role in about one out of every four traffic fatalities, taking the lives of more than 250 people each year.

Someone is waiting for you to make it home today. Slow down, buckle up, and give yourself a little extra time. We’d much rather see you arrive safely than meet you on the side of the road.

Have a safe Sunday, Tuscaloosa County. 💙

It’s better to be a few minutes late than not there at all. Speeding catches up with you.

🛣Slow down, buckle up, don't text and drive

From July 13th -19th the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office will join law enforcement agencies across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Tennessee for Operation Southern Slow Down, a regional traffic enforcement campaign focused on reducing speed-related crashes and saving lives.

Speeding continues to be a leading factor in fatal crashes, reducing reaction time and increasing the severity of collisions. During this campaign, Deputies will conduct increased enforcement on highways and roadways throughout our county.

🏁 Obey the speed limit
💺 Buckle up
📵 Stay focused on the road
⏰ Give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination

Remember: Getting there safely is more important than getting there quickly.
