A haven of hope for teens. Hope Harbor began as an emergency crisis shelter for teen runaways.

Hope Harbor, formerly known as Laurel House, was founded in 1985 by two women who were distraught at the sight of teenagers living on the streets of Orange County, California. Through the years, Hope Harbor has evolved into a unique, preventive-care program providing temporary housing (12-18 months), mental health care, academic support, and all basic necessities to at-risk, homeless, or runaway teens in Orange County. More than just temporary relief, Hope Harbor not only stabilizes these teens but brings restoration to the entire family unit before their teen ends up on the streets or becomes a ward of the court system. In 2020, due to the growing need, Hope Harbor opened Rip Tide, a second shelter home for at-risk, runaway, and homeless teen boys. Following the same successful model of the Girls Home, Rip Tide doubles our impact in the community.

A trip to Build-a-Bear can be fun at any age! Our girls went on an outing and got to spend time with their honorary little sister, the daughter of one of our wonderful respite parents.

Today is World Mental Health Day, an important reminder that caring for our mental health deserves the same attention and compassion as caring for our physical health.

At Hope Harbor, we encourage our teens to talk about what they’re feeling, ask for help when they need it, and learn healthy ways to care for themselves. Just as importantly, we love seeing them show up for one another — listening and offering support through whatever life may bring.

There should be no shame in needing help or reaching out for it. And we can all make a difference simply by being willing to listen and remind the people around us that they are cared for. 💙

We want to give a huge shoutout to the Facilities Operations team at In-N-Out for choosing to do a serve day at Hope Harbor!

They visited both of our homes and decorated for fall, organized the pantries, cleaned the floors and gym, made charcuterie boards for an after-school snack, and made spaghetti and brownies for dinner. What a blessing!
