Training never stops at Tybee Island Fire Rescue.

This week crews focused on pump operations and master stream training, sharpening the skills needed to move large volumes of water quickly and efficiently during major fire incidents. Our firefighters trained on utilizing a single apparatus to not only make an aggressive fire attack, but also protect nearby exposures at the same time.

In many fires, especially in tightly spaced areas, protecting neighboring structures can be just as important as extinguishing the main fire building. By maximizing the capabilities of one apparatus and coordinating pump operations effectively, our crews can increase efficiency, conserve resources, and improve overall incident operations.

Our crews are continuing to ramp up water rescue training to ensure we are ready for the influx of beach goers this summer.

Water rescue operations are a year-round responsibility for Tybee Island Fire Rescue, but during the summer months our personnel respond to a significant increase in water-related emergencies. Our fire department rescue swimmers train extensively to handle everything from distressed swimmers and rip current rescues to large-scale incidents in challenging surf conditions.

While our Lifeguards remain the primary response for beach emergencies, Tybee Island Fire Rescue provides critical backup on all water rescues and major incidents utilizing our Rescue Watercraft and/or Rescue Swimmers when needed.

These skills require constant practice, teamwork, and preparation to operate safely and effectively in dynamic ocean conditions. We are proud of the dedication our personnel continue to show in protecting both our residents and visitors throughout the beach season.

Please remember:
- Swim near a lifeguard
- Always respect warning flags and surf conditions
- Never underestimate rip currents
- Call 911 immediately for emergencies

Be safe and we’ll see you on the beach!

As we prepare for another busy beach season on Tybee, our crews have been hard at work helping get the shoreline ready for visitors and residents alike. This week, Tybee Island Fire Rescue started assisting with painting the new lifeguard stands currently being built by Tybee Island’s Department of Public Works.

We’re excited to share that there will be MORE lifeguard stands placed along the beach this season, helping improve coverage and visibility for beach safety operations.

In addition to supporting these efforts, our fire department rescue swimmers will also be actively patrolling and providing supervision assistance for beach operations throughout the season. Our goal is to continue working closely with our beach safety partners to provide a safer environment for everyone enjoying Tybee’s beaches.

A big thank you to Public Works for their hard work and partnership as we get ready for a safe and successful summer season.

Please remember:
🌊 Swim near staffed lifeguard areas
🌊 Stay aware of rip current conditions
🌊 Never swim alone
🌊 Call 911 immediately in an emergency

We look forward to seeing everyone safely enjoy the beach this summer!

🔥🚒 TIFR firefighters joining the fight! 🔥🚒

Even as a small department, our commitment to service doesn’t stop at our city limits.

Tybee Island Fire Rescue is proud to support our fellow firefighters battling the Brantley County wildfire. While we must ensure our community remains protected, we are sending available resources and personnel to assist in this critical effort.

Wildfires of this scale demand teamwork, and we stand shoulder to shoulder with departments across South Georgia to help protect lives, property, and natural resources.

Please keep all responding personnel in your thoughts as they work long hours under challenging conditions.
