Tybee Island Ocean Rescue

Tybee Island Ocean Rescue TIFR Ocean Rescue is on the beach May-October each year, only during daylight hours. Please call 911 in any emergency!

If you swim outside the season, or outside these hours in-season, please be aware you are swimming at your own risk.

⛈️ Sunday 5/31/2026 – 11:11 AM Update ⛈️

Lifeguards are clearing the water due to lightning detected within 12 miles, in accordance with our safety protocols.

⚠️ It is not safe to swim at this time. Please stay out of the water for your safety and the safety of our lifeguards.

Lifeguards will remain off the beach until 30 minutes have passed since the last lightning strike detected within 12 miles.

We also recommend downloading a lightning tracker app to help monitor conditions and stay safe, especially when lifeguards are off duty or not stationed in your area. ⚡️

🌊🛟 Memorial Day Weekend 2026 Report 🛟🌊

This Memorial Day Weekend, Tybee Island Ocean Rescue crews stayed busy keeping our beaches safe.

From rescues and medical aids to preventative actions and helping reunite missing persons, our guards worked hard all weekend long to protect residents and visitors enjoying the beach.

We are incredibly proud of our team and thankful for everyone who listened to safety warnings, swam near lifeguards, and helped make the holiday weekend safer for all. 🇺🇸🌊

🟥 Lifeguards will be flying RED flags today. High Hazard. Rough conditions such as strong surf and/or currents are present including rip currents. All swimmers are discouraged from entering the water. Those who do should take great care. Please use caution while in the water and always swim near a staffed Lifeguard tower.
