As we jump into the new school year, we're shifting our Book of the Week posts to be Resource of the Week. To kick off resource of the week, we're showing off one of our most popular amenities: the color printer! Our color printer is one of only a few on campus and is easy to find in our lobby. In addition to printing, you can also make copies or scan documents in color. Whether you're printing class assignments or memes to hang on your wall, we've got you covered!

Welcome back to campus! Classes are back in swing, so relax some of those first week jitters by stopping by to check out the final book of the week for August! This time, it's Abyss by Pilar Quintana.
Claudia is an 8-year-old girl living with her parents in Cali, Columbia, when she notices an 'abyss' beginning to cloud around her family. Through Claudia's eyes we watch as her family is swallowed by the 'abyss' over the course of the year. What Claudia is deeming an 'abyss' we know are themes of societal pressure, infidelity, and depression, however, told through the eyes of a child. Abyss by Pilar Quintana serves as a reminder that while kids may not understand the complexities of struggle, they can still feel the effects.
This book is available physically here at the AML, so come by to pick it up and read Claudia's story!

Just because the reading challenge is over doesn't mean books go away forever! Staying on theme this week, our book is The Intentions of Thunder: New and Selected Poems by Patricia Smith.
Patricia Smith is a critically acclaimed poet and The Intentions of Thunder is one of her many award-winning books. The book is considered Patricia's ode to life and testimonial to America as she relays her life's passions and pains through her lyrical writing and extreme vulnerability.
This Pulitzer finalist and winner of the National Book Award for Poetry is available physically and is part of one our book displays for August. Be sure to stop in to check out both the displays and the book!

Only four days left to submit books for the summer reading challenge! Any of our speed readers up for a challenge? Because this week's book is Flesh by David Szalay!

The book follows a reclusive Hungarian man named István. The story follows István through more sorrowful chapters in his life, while skimming over the better parts. Szalay creates a unique perspective different from both typical tragedies and sweet stories. Instead, Flesh reflects how a person seems to reminisce about the things they regret more than the things that make life full.

This book counts for two points and is available here physically at the library! This is a read you won't put down. We hope you enjoy it!
