Throughout Valley City you may notice contrasting concrete colors or detectable warning panels at curb ramps and crossings. Contrasting colors help improve visibility and accessibility for people with visual impairments, helping pedestrians recognize where a sidewalk transitions to a street and where extra attention is needed. This helps keep our sidewalks and crossings easier and safer to navigate for people with disabilities, seniors, children, and anyone using a stroller or mobility device.

So the next time you see a different-colored sidewalk or curb ramp around Valley City, now you know what's up!
